I would think the massive conflicts of interest, not disengaging himself from his business interests while serving as President, plus the U.S. Constitution's Emoluments Clause, the nepotism, bizarre behavior, openly supporting neo-Nazis, KKK members and racists, would be enough. Oh, and don't forget the most recent bit: Working to get a Trump Tower in Moscow while campaigning for President? And vacationing at Camp David while the VP runs the Situation Room in DC during Hurricane Harvey.

What they need is to know Donny Two Scoops power to end their political career with a tweet is over. As long as Trump has 20% of the GOP base fanatically devoted to him nobody can make a move against him for fear of being primaried.

The GOP has for decades been pandering to the worst elements of society because they're a reliable voting block. Even though that block makes up a minority of the GOP thanks to gerrymandering and political apathy of moderates during primaries that minority hold a disproportionate amount of power in the party.

If the GOP wants to be free from the racist idiots they've courted since the Civil Rights bill alienated them from the Democrats then they've got to abandon them as easy votes. Purge the party of the alt-right, let them go form their own third party. Sure they'll never vote Republican but they'll also sure as hell never vote Democrat. They'll be a powerless little group of angry racist morons affecting the policies of neither real political party. This will mean the GOP will actually have to fight the Dems on the middle ground, but guess what, that's actually where most of the country lives anyway. Sometimes they'll win, sometimes they'll lose, but over all the party itself will be much more healthy and will be able to actually enact effective policy and as a whole the entire nation will benefit.

Of course this means the GOP will actually have to put the country before party and party before self which isn't going to happen because the GOP has been actively recruiting sociopaths as political ideals and sociopaths don't put anything above themselves. The GOP is made up of people who are ME before party, and then at a far distant second party before country, and then if they've got a shiat left to give they'll give that to the country.

Basically the GOP shiat the bed with the Southern Strategy long ago and the rest of the country has to sleep in it.

The GOP still thinks they can get their billionaire owners those big tax cuts. They'll swallow anything to get those done.

That's the big proximate goal. After that, they're simply unprincipled beyond party unity. There is no interior mechanism inside their souls for saying no to a man like Trump.

The WASPs were desperate enough that they were willing to stick a Mormon in the presidency a decade ago. A traitor's probably also acceptable to them so long as they bring home the bacon and sow disruption/sabotage that furthers the "both sides are bad" narrative sufficiently to keep their lies believable enough to keep them in power.  I really don't think there's any turning back for them at this point.

Putin probably has plenty of kompromat on other Republicans (given that the RNC was also hacked, but its contents unreleased), and even if not, the GOP knows that alienating Trump's racist idiot cult would fark them over for at least a few elections.

THAT is why they haven't just thrown his ass out and instated Pence as the rubber-stamp-in-chief.

The GOP thinks that they are safe from collateral Trump damage. They think that voters will think of Trump as separate from the rest of the GOP, so they can safely ignore him.

This is where the "Trump is fighting with McConnell/Ryan/Cruz/McCain/etc." narrative helps them. They use it to distance themselves, without actually creating any distance.

We must make the GOP own Trump. Every time he does something stupid/offensive/dangerous/corrupt/illegal, we must make McConnell/Ryan/Cruz/McCain/etc. own that as accessories before, during, and after the fact.

This is not Trump's failure. This is not Trump's corruption. It is the GOP's.

Dear Liberal/Moderate America,
Stop blaming Republican Congressmen for not removing Trump from office.   They have millions of voters telling them they like the job he is doing.   Yes, its noble to suggest that they might show leadership and make the tough call.   Yes, they have a responsibility to do something.   The reality is, that doesn't often happen in a democratic republican.

Place the blame for this where it belongs, squarely on the people who are telling there congressmen that they think Trump is doing a good job.   This is actually not that hard since most of us know these people. Unfortunately, in most castes, they are our friends and family members.     They are not arbitrary "other people."

Talk to them.  Politely if you can.  But if don't be afraid to get in their faces if you have to..  Make conversations painfully unconformable for them.   If they aren't afraid to fark up that family dinner talking about how they just think he is doing a great job, then you don't be afraid to say "fark it," and confront them.  Make them own their shiat.

If you won't stand up to people you know and call them on their bullshiat, then don't ask some strange politician to do it.   I know, that shouldn't be the reality.  Unfortunately, it is.

The reality is, that no one in the GOP is going to do anything until they are afraid of losing their seat if they don't.

They have the choice to either impeach him and get the smooth sailing (for them) of a Pence presidency or have a virtual guarantee that they'll be voted out come mid terms. Their choice.

There's literally nothing that will make them turn on him. All that hot air they blather about honor, ethics and moral standards is lip service. The fact is as long as it benefited them, they don't care. If the democrats did it, it would be the end of the world. But they can do no wrong.

This won't happen. Effectively booting 25% of their voters is sure to make the GOP less powerful than the Democrats, and eventually less powerful than the animals they booted. They know this.

They're married to the parasitic worm eating their body. If they remove it they die. If they keep it they die more slowly.

She was fine with the horrific things they've done for a long time, and fine with the process that made them the party they are.

Not really.

She doesn't like Trump because he's a racist idiot that colluded with our enemies to win the election, but apart from the racism and the idiocy and the collusion, she is mostly on-board with his policies.

Republicans that don't like Trump are *mostly* concerned that he is WAY too obvious about screwing minorities and poor people at every opportunity. It's going to cost them votes, because, amazingly, there were a large number of voters that hadn't figure this out yet. Or, at least, were happy to play along.
