Because of course the local PD needs an APC and flashbang grenades to conduct drug raids. Why would you even question that?

Am I the only one who thinks the entirety of Trump's presidential career, from the very beginning to the actions he's taken since being in office, can all be traced back to one single incident, to one catalyzing moment that put it all in motion and that has served as the primary motivation for everything that followed? That, of course, being the time when Obama poked fun at him during the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Well of course they should.

When Trump decides to declare himself Predisent for life and enforce martial law, he needs to make sure the Protection Squad has all of the killing power it needs and more.

All those dirty Jews, blackies, messicans, homos, cripples, and transs aren't just going to kill themselves, dontchaknow.

You wrote that he hates Obama, and that much is obvious, he's obviously focused on rolling back anything done during Obama's Presidency. My point was why he's that way.

I was reading an article the other day that said it was because he hated the fact that Obama, a black man, had the audacity to step into a role that had heretofore been filled by an old, white man.

I don't believe it goes that deep, I think it's simply the case that Obama hurt that Oompa-Loompa looking, short-fingered, squirrel-headed, sloppily dressed, incoherent, thin-skinned moron's fee fees. Obama made fun of him in public and his only motivation since has been to take revenge for that slight.

Short answer:  no.

Medium answer: noooooo.

Long answer: giving a group of officers, whose mission is to strengthen the community, the same equipment that's used to take hostile areas under siege is an incredibly stupid and dangerous idea.  That money is much better served hiring additional officers, creating community outreach programs, or a whole host of other ways.  Treating the community like a war zone will not end well, it never does.  What the fark is wrong with you.

I'm surprised he's not sending all of said equipment to Chicago.  I never thought I'd see the day where a sitting President would threaten a US city, but here we are.  Or rather were, several months ago.  Feels like the Nectarine Noriega has been in office for years, not months.

I never had a problem with the basic APC they used to roll with, the one that held like two people and had a ram on the front? Yeah, those were OK, there are occasional situations where they need to force an entry with something like that. The problem is that they don't stop with that, and turn this:

The first image is actually an example of when a vehicle like that is needed. That was from the Los Angeles bank robbery/shootout, where the robbers had full auto weapons and body armor, and were shooting it out in the streets with the cops. The second image just makes me afraid of the police, and I've done nothing wrong.

So they take something that is used in extreme situations and turn it into something that they could literally mount an assault on the public with. So yeah subby, I agree with you.

"But after the Justice Department concluded that the use of military-style equipment made matters worse in Ferguson, President Obama put some equipment off limits - including tracked armored vehicles, bayonets, and grenade launchers - and required a showing of need for tactical vehicles with wheels."

How dare Obama want to restrict police from using grenade launchers and bayonets against civilians?!

I can already hear the whataboutism regarding him using drone strikes against radicalized Americans in Yemen and Pakistan.

Yep. I got pulled over in a bad place a couple years back. I totally was speeding. It's my sincere belief that body armor and automatic weapons have become a substitute for good police work.

Case in point: The raid on a house in my hometown. http://reason.com/blog/2015/08/03/swat-team-liable-for-wrong-house-flash-b
TL;DR - Guy used unsecured WiFi to make anonymous threats.  SWAT teams raided the house and found an 18 year old and her Grandmother.  Family got a settlement.

20 minutes of actual, thinking man's police work would have concluded that anyone in the area could have made those threats.

Well, when the head of the Rosedale Ku Klux Klan draws his pistol, fires at a black man defending himself and others against an oncoming group of Neo Nazis and only receives a charge of discharging a firearm within 1000 units of measurement from a school, I think it's obvious the FBI's warning about white supremacist organizations penetrating law enforcement is true.
