The President is black?

Why won't Fake News CNN or The Failing New York Times report on this?

I love Ken Burns and I adore Barack Obama, but I say let the dust settle for a decade or two.

Bill Clinton?

Will a big chunk of the documentary be with a college professor type who thinks the birthers were totally reasonable people who made the best of a bad situation and served their state?

From TFA

we could get at least fifteen years away from Obama's Presidency

Sepia tones and letters to mah beluvud Clementine go well with an Obama documentary.

2017-08-28 08:30:33 PM
And I'm sure he'll manage to find some way to make the epic rise and presidency of our extremely eloquent and gifted black president as boring as watching paint dry, too, just as he managed to do with the Civil War, Jazz, Baseball, et al.

Oh man, hold on tight for Twitler's stream of "consciousness" rants about the sad/failing Ken Burns.

Please let it be called "The Weakling Tyrant - How One Man nearly destroyed America through Ineffectual Tyrrany".  There should be something about mom jeans too.

Obama's personal letters should be read by Buckwheat.

A good place for a reminder that The Vietnam War is now less than 3 weeks away.

Is he going to get Obama to read his own letters as the camera pans over a still image?

Actually, that DOES sound boring.  His take on history is interesting when he talks about obscure facts, and shows how society at the time precieved and responded to those facts.  This is documentary blowjob.

I gotta be honest, plenty of people in my mexican/native/spanish family, who get grouped with white people (i.e., the infamous "white hispanic" folks), were a little confused about him being both black AND more white than us.

2chinz: I love Ken Burns and I adore Barack Obama, but I say let the dust settle for a decade or two.

I'm trying to decide if he's trying to document history, or write it. I got nothing against his documentaries, but a whole lot of subject matter is still controversial and locked up for the next many years... i kind of don't have confidence that anybody will be able to figure out any even-remotely-objective-facts for a while.

I wasn't going to take it to this extreme... but yeah. records are still being withheld all over the place.

I love Ken Burns documentaries.

I've told friends that if you ever feel too much like good guys prevail and that life is fair and just and that hard work is rewarded - watch a Ken Burns documentary. Any Ken Burns documentary. It will cure you.

He's a master of what I call "The farked Man of History" theory. That the so-called "great" people throughout human history have all been basically farked and their great accomplishment was just barely riding the wave of truly farked up times.

Somewhere around hour 47 of the Civil War thing, I realized that I was being shown the same photograph from a different angle with the same bathetic music for the twentieth time. I watched three minutes of the baseball one. Same thing; I stopped feeling guilty about not contributing to PBS.

My favorite Ken Burn doc is the one about the old stuff.

All the old stuff!

Is Ken Burns saying we're all doomed by doing a Ken Burns documentary on something that was still active a year ago?

I hope Vietnam is good.

That war is still a problem and it's like a wound that won't heal.

Or maybe that's just my opinion.  But time and information can go a long way toward helping people understand and make peace with a thing.

I'm looking forward to it.

2017-08-28 10:24:24 PM
As noted, it would piss off Trump, so it's already got that going for it.

/I've always felt that the perfect vehicle for Burns is a faithful adaptation of the novel World War Z.

There were quite a few different photographs, but yes, some got used more then once. The Civil War was more about the history, and bringing it down to more personal perspective from people that lived through it.
But, that is not everyone's cup of tea, and that's fine.
But PBS is more then just a few Ken Burns series. So you should still feel guilty.

Sounds like it's going to cover the war and the counter culture movement, should be good stuff.  I'm pretty sure the soundtrack is gonna be kick ass too,

Might as well preserve this for history... there are certain segments of this country's population are determined not to let it happen again, at least within my lifetime or the lifetimes of my children.

There will not be another person of color in The Big Chair until these people are all consumed as the Israelites who sinned were in Numbers. Doubt if there will be any women either.

While it's an older documentary, 10,000 Days (if I'm recalling the name of it correctly) is an excellent documentary series about the Vietnam War.

Didn't he direct and produce the 3 part Roosevelt documentary which aired on PBS a few years ago?

(Also WW2, and The West)

I think the best Vietnam doc I saw was the ten episode series Battlefield:Vietnam.  Well written and  narrated with lots of maps and graphics, it aired on PBS and the only place I seem to be able to find it now is on youtube, but the quality isn't that great.

Ken Burns is 64. While he might be healthy and long lived, I'd rather see him make it now than end up kicking the bucket and not make it at all.
