(The Hill)   Interior Dept recommend that Trump shrink the size of several "National monuments" Obama designated at the end of his term, but that's not going to happen as it could lead to a headline reading: "Trump's monument much smaller than Obama's"   ( thehill.com) divider line

How could he erase our heritage and culture like that?
Those beautiful, beautiful monuments.

FTA, "Adherence to the [Antiquities] Act's definition of an 'object' and 'smallest area compatible' clause on some monuments were either arbitrary or likely politically motivated or boundaries could not be supported by science or reasons of practical resource management," the summary reads."

Reading this makes me believe he has no understanding on just what the Antiquities Act is.  Here's a nice summary from the NPS:   Antiquities Act

Trump would never do anything Obama would have done. Trump's spent all his time when he's not on the golf course undoing everything Obama did, whether he agreed with them or not.

The press prints that headline about Trump's monument being smaller than Obama's and what will follow is a tirade about the Fake News media lying about his size, and trying to discredit his perceived inadequacies by actually proving them true.

Some days I wish Obama hadn't don't so many cool things.

I realize things are just going back the way they were 1-8 years ago, but no one said that this jagoff was going to decimate climate change research, ruin national treasures and fark with our education system while he was actually running.

When you think shrinkage, think Trump.

There is a part of me that could be ok with this if they were going to open up some places for the average joe to go get a house in the woods, on farmland, near the coast or other locations or areas That haven't been owned for generations and cost too much to buy. Fresh land. Maybe not quite a homestead act, but some deals for average people to buy in places they'd appreciate, tend to, respect, and love. Instead it will be sold or leased to developers, ranchers, oil, mineral and timber companies who'll squeeze the shiat out of it and leave the rotting pulp there for taxes to eventfully clean up ala super fund sites.

*Trump walks up to the podium at a campaign rally*

"The fake news media such as the failing Amazon Washington Post and the terrible New York Times, CNN, MSNBC, all of them. All of them. They say I'm shrinking national monument! Can you believe it?! Can you?! But I am the biggest national monument man this country has ever seen. Love my national monument. Love it. But I'll prove! I'll prove that my national monument are best!"

*zips*

*crowd laughs* *that one black guy that always shows up applauds the president*

*FOX shows full uncensored photo, shopped to make Trump look bigger than the twig lost in a bush that he is*

Christ no. Even though I'd probably like to have a beer with Obama, that's just coincidental. That's the last qualification I'd want in a President. I think Mel Gibson is a great director but I couldn't want to go to a "rally" with him. I think Tom Cruise puts a lot of effort into his acting but I wouldn't go camping with him.

If this goes through it will be worse than it was 8 years ago, because this will set precedent.  Then the next Republican asshole president can shrink all the national monuments by a much larger amount

Just to drive this joke further into the ground, what we're saying is that Trump is intimidated by the size of the monuments that Obama has erected.

And remember this in 2018 and 2020 when various idiots, assholes, and dipshiats are arguing that it's not worth voting, or the Democrats aren't pure enough to vote for, and a host of other farknut excuses.

I just wish he would have spent as much time getting people to chant 'Poison our Water' and 'Ruin our Schools' as he did 'Lock Her Up' and 'Build the Wall'.

That is the problem with National Monuments declared through the Antiquities Act.  One person can enact and one person can take it away.  If you want a place protected, you need to do it right and get congress involved.

Texas Gabe: They'll have to pry my Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument from my cold, dead hands...

Much of that is already wilderness, though, correct?
