Trump does this all the time. Remember just a few weeks ago he attacked Joe and Mika from Morning Joe by revealing that they wanted to go to one of his parties, as if going to one of Trump's parties means that you can never criticize him again for anything he may ever do.

I seem to recall Trump doing this bit a lot during the Republican debates. If you ever donated to Trump, or accepted a donation from him, or went to one of his parties or anything like that, Trump actually thinks he owns you and is forever immune from your criticism for ANYTHING, because you're a hypocrite or something.

I just imagine Trump listening to Clapper's criticism, and thinking to himself, "Boy, wait until the public finds out that Clapper once wrote me a nice letter! They'll be so shocked at his hypocrisy, they'll forget all the mean things he said about me! In fact, they'll be madder at him for being a hypocrite than at me for being a lousy president!"

Trump has used Twitter to fire off similar threats against his opponents-instances that have further complicated the president's legal troubles.

Good. He needs to be in jail.

Trump also tends to lie about that shiat.

Done in one. The way the trumpster's mind works is truly sick, in the sad clinical sense of the word.

So basically, Trump owns the Republican Party for life.  At some point Republicans may regret that.

Likewise. My conscience is clear. I've always considered him an icon of everything wrong with a certain aspect of the American psyche. A cash flashing vulgarian serial adulterer. Sadly, a certain portion of the population sees those as good things.

Standard narcissistic personality disorder behavior: they will take a single fact that supports their narrative and use it regardless of any scrap of context that does not.

This is exactly what we saw with Donald repeating comey's statement about not being under investigation at the time.  In his world, that's a Forever Thing; it couldn't possibly be that new facts and evidence turned up and then investigations started later, no! It means that if there is an investigation on Donald, Comey, and by extension everyone in the FBI must be liars! And His Orangeness can't be prosecuted by liars!

He sure does.

The basic format is we expect arguments to have relevant reasoning followed by logical conclusions.  Instead Trump just plays mad libs with whatever the fark he wants.  The method doesn't have to be factual.  The conclusion doesn't have to logically follow.  No one that matters has ever called him out on it and he has never paid any price for it.  He has only gained from it.

I mean, I would imagine it would be the opposite: if the person's first reaction to you being elected was to snap at you and treat you poorly it might give you a chance to cast them as biased and predisposed to being harsh towards you.

Instead this is "you treated me warmly once, therefore you are complicit in whatever I do forevermore!"

2017-08-24 01:22:13 PM
And this is why I NEVER say anything nice about Trump.  He may be the de facto leader of the free world but because I always badmouth the guy I totally own him and this actually makes me tied with the other 2/3 of the population who agree he's a total dickweed for the title of most powerful person ever.

In reality (I know reality has nothing to do with Trump supporters), it actually makes someone's current disdain of him all the more authentic if they haven't always had bad things to say about him.  Take Corker, for example.  His words carry more weight than McCain's because he had an open mind about giving him a chance to not be this horrible.

It's even more basic than that.  All that matters to the Donald is, you're with him or you're against him.  In his world, facts don't matter, lies don't matter, policies don't matter, only power and subservience matter.   So, anything slightly favorable (even, "you're not under investigation at this time")  is understood to mean you're "I'm on your team".  Abandoning the team is *the* unforgivable sin.

Trump isn't even trying to make an argument here.  He's just letting people know that Clapper personally is now on Trump's shiat list.

This one was from before my time, but comes to mind every time Clapper's in the news.

My name's Friday, I'm a cop.
I was working the day watch, on a robbery, when I got a call from the Acme School Bell Company. There's been a robbery.
Man: There's been a robbery.
Friday: Yes Sir, what is it?
Man: My clappers.
Friday: Your clappers?
Man: Yeah, you know those things inside a bell that makes them clang.
Friday: The clangers.
Man: That's right, but we call them clappers in the business.
Friday: A clapper caper.
Man: What's that?
Friday: Nothing Sir. Now can I have the facts?
What kind of clappers was stolen on this capper?
Man: They were copper clappers.
Friday: And where were they kept?
Man: In the closet.
Friday: U huh. You have any ideas, who might have taken the copper clappers from the closet?
Man: Well, once fired a man and he swore he'd get even.
Friday: What was his name?
Man: Claude Cooper.
Friday: You think he.......
Man That's right ! That's right! I think Claude Copper copped my copper clappers, kept in a closet.
Friday: Do you know where this Claude Cooper is from?
Man: Yea, Cleveland.
Friday: That figures that figures.
Man: What make it worse, they were clean.
Friday: Clean copper clappers?
Man: That's right.
Friday: Why do you think Cleveland's Claude Cooper, would cop your clean copper clappers kept in your closet?
Man: Only one reason.
Friday: And what's that?
Man: He's a kleptomaniac.
Friday: Who first discovered that the copper clappers were copped?
Man: My cleaning woman, Clara Clifford.
Friday: That figures, now let me see if I have the facts straight here.
Cleaning woman Clara Clifford discovered your clean copper clappers, kept in a closet, were copped by Claude Cooper the kleptomaniac from Cleveland. Now is that about it?
Man: One other thing.
Friday: What's that?
Man: If ever I catch kleptomaniac Claude Cooper from Cleveland, who copped my clean copper clappers that were kept in a closet.
Friday: Yes?
Man: I'll clobber him

Man was played by Johnny Carson.
