To be fair, you had to be a moron to support Trump to begin with, and from a moron's point of view, Trump is smart(er).

How did 74% of people find him intelligent in November according to that poll? I mean, his speeches use simple words and his adjectives are on par with the description a 6 year-old gives when they find something "AWESOME!" out in the yard when exploring. I mean, I know that there's the saying that people are stupid, but dear god, how was he a paragon of wit for them? He's a blathering idiot. The guy who you evict from a room so that adults can talk.

What I'm saying, I guess, is that Republicans are morons, and he is their king. Apropos.

According to the poll, 55% of voters view Trump as intelligent, while 43% do not. That?s down from 74% who viewed him as intelligent in November 2016.

I find it amazing anyone with a college degree finds Trump intelligent, even if they agree with him politically. Just listening to him speak is physically painful. He can't stay on topic for more than a sentence.

Many of us pointed that out last year but no, we were told we were idiots and Trump was a secret genius playing multi-dimensional strategic chess who would pivot at just the right moment to pull it all together.

Now you think you have figured this out on your own and want me to know how smarty you are? He's a moron and so is anyone who voted for him

Someone (maybe Andrew Sullivan?) once said of Newt Gingrich that he is a dumb person's idea of a smart person. I'm sure the same goes for Trump. How do they know he's smart? Because he said so himself. Using only the best words. Just the most beautiful, terrific words.

Stop that. He generates enough garbage as it is. No one has to make up stupid things about him.

His base didn't think he was intelligent per se, just more intelligent than them which is setting the bar pretty low.

Believing Trump is intelligent - an solid example of Dunning-Kruger.  Right up there with finding Alex Jones "trustworthy", finding Fox News "balanced", or finding Deepak Chopra "knowledgeable".

The skills and knowledge you need to evaluate such qualities are so bad, you have no comprehension of how bad your evaluation is.

I think that a lot of people seem to equate rich (or the appearance of being rich) with intelligent.  It doesn't even matter if you try to point out that there is no actual basis to say Trump is rich other than appearances.  I tried this with someone and explained that he could be under massive loads of debt and you wouldn't know it because he hasn't released enough information.

It all seems to fall on deaf ears and you just get an earful of he is a super successful businessman!

Trump is a brand. Like any brand, it has diehard supporters that would agree to describe the product with any positive attribute, because they like the idea that they were wise enough to choose the best. They would defend the product to the death, if only because to admit its flaws would be akin to admitting they did not make the best choice. You see it with cars, phones, video game systems, etc.

That people who elected Trump are even willing to admit that he has flaws is a positive sign. It means their brand-loyalty is flagging.

Along a similar metaphorical line of thought. Bannon and his kind are like the people who buy a product, claim to be fans, then relentlessly criticize it. You know the type. You often find them in video game forums. They could not choose a product with exactly the features they want, so they are pressuring the brand to tune the product to their tastes.

In my experience most stupid people think you are stupid if you speak at a high level because they can't comprehend what you are saying.   The fact that he speaks at a 5th grade level means he is accessible to the majority of America leading to that 74% number.

Come on. Make way for the bad guy. There's a bad guy comin' through! Better get outta his way!

The 55% of voters who still think he's intelligent should be punched in the head every day. Couldn't hurt anything important, might actually help, you know, like those rare situations where a guy who gets shot in the head and lives wakes up from a coma able to speak 6 languages that he never could before, or can play piano when he's never had a lesson, something like that.

What I'm trying to say is, Trump voters are the stupidest people on earth.

If you've ever heard him speak and concluded that he's intelligent, you're a goddam moron.

Trump's cult followers all seem to think he started life as a scrappy, barefooted newsboy who raised himself up by hard work to become a business titan, a true Horatio Alger story.

The reality, of course, being that he inherited his real estate company and his fortune from his dad and then managed to bungle his finances so badly that he has had to go through bankruptcy 4 times.

Just bad at assessing intelligence. And then 19% reassessed and changed their minds. So really it's just 55% that are idiots.

But, there's more.

Considering his (gallup daily) approval is at 34%. In the best case scenario you'd expect those who approve to also think he's intelligent, which means at least 21% among disapprovers still think he's intelligent! Haha. Of course, the best case isn't likely, chances are a big chunk of that 34% approval is made up of people who think he's a moron, it's just that he's their moron so they approve.
