"If we have to close down our government, we're building that wall," Trump said.

I'm a little confused on that point.  If the government is shut down, then which agency is going to be cutting paychecks for the guys out pouring concrete?

Do you think trump has ever once worried himself about the question "but who will cut the paychecks?"

The Democrats need to take whatever dollar value Trump is making up today. And then point out that it won't stop any of the problems he wants to build the wall to stop. And then point out all the things that we could do with that money.

Things that both the Left and Right can agree on (assuming there is anything we still agree on).

The bigger news is that the Republicans are not saying anything in regards to Presidente Trump's demands.

We'll just see what the newest cabinet member Secretary of Wall Erection and Patrolling, the Right Honorable Joe Arpaio has to see about this.

I'd like to see them approve funding, to the tune of $17. 08. Seventeen bucks. That would be Obama-level trolling.

No, in fact, ignoring the check-cutting part has been his primary cost savings mechanism on many projects.

Well in that case he would worry about someone cutting paychecks. Just in the opposite way to how one normally considers it.

Do you think trump has ever once worried himself about any detail of any directive he's ever given? He has no idea how anything in the world actually works. He just knows that if he yells loud enough he often gets what he wants.

Anyone remember Hong Kong Phooey? He thought he was bad-ass without realizing it was his cat Spot that actually did everything for him.

I think their current strategy is to actively ignore he even exists and hope he goes away.  I hear this strategy is Paul Anka approved.

They're doing it in hopes of getting another recording of Trump on the phone begging Nieto to just tell people Mexico will fund it, even if he doesn't really mean it.

If Trump wants a wall so bad, then why doesn't he pay for it himself with the $89b he claims that he has?

The GOP will just pass the measure while keeping the actual funding bottled up in committee.

Just like the border fence.

If Trump closes down the government, the Republicans will pay dearly for it once those expecting a Social Security check don't see it show up in their account.

My hope with this is the Democrats can get the Republicans to vote to abolish the debt limit idiocy so it can never again be held hostage.

That should actually be Pelosi's response - we don't need the House to appropriate funding because Mexico is supposed to be paying for it.  Watch Donnie have to go and admit in public that Mexico isn't gonna pay a damn thing.

Logic be damned, but how can Trump simultaneously claim credit for securing the border and insist on the need for a wall?

That is literally impossible since a significant portion of the modern right-wing "philosophy" is comprised entirely of "stand for everything the left is against".

The only thing the right is not reactionary about ideologically now is tax cuts and bigotry - and the bigotry is iffy since they seem to revel in opposing democrats for opposing bigotry.

Answer: Trump.

So, let me get this straight. When he was campaigning, he guaranteed that Mexico would pay for the wall. Mexico laughed at him and he doubled down, saying that yes, they would pay for the wall.

Now he's totally changed his stance and is saying we will pay for this albatross that doesn't stand a snowball's chance of working.

Do his dumbshiat supporters have anything to say about this, or are they too farking stupid to remember all of his hollow promises?

If Schumer or Pelosi have a shred of a spine, this will be the talking point from here to the midterms as far as the wall is concerned.  Force Two Scoops to publicly walk back his signature campaign promise in the worst way possible.  I know he has no plan to make Mexico pay for anything, he knows that, and if the Dems want to win anything at all in the midterms they need to make damn sure that the Trumpers know that as well.

Irony has yet to be lost on this president vis-a-vis his border wall.

Every large scale construction project within the Southwestern US, through no fault of their own ends up employing a significant number of illegal immigrants. The kinds of workers needed to supply the materials and the manpower for construction -- that's a core industry employing illegal labor.

What will eventually end up hurting illegals will at least initially help them. Think of all the additional illegals entering just so they can work on the wall.

/Not assuming the wall is a done deal.
//Not happening, especially with Trump bullying a new congressperson almost daily
///Just following Trump's wishes to their logical conclusion.

The worst part about being a long-time Trump supporter is that people just assume we're idiots.

Just the other day I was walking into the local Walmart wearing my MAGA hat and my finest "Fark Your Feelings" t-shirt on and someone in the parking lot asked if I wanted to buy movies.  There were some fine films there and at a much better price than that Commie Redbox and I wouldn't have to return them.  Win!-Win!  So I bought 10 of his finest movies right there on the spot.  When I got home, I gathered the missus and the 5 childrens around to gaze upon the deal I had made. When I couldn't get the movie to play, my youngest, Cleetus, said "Daddy, those are AOL CDs."

The Democrats should let them build the wall, and in 2020 cut the military budget by however much it cost; and raise taxes on blue collar industries to pay for it.

Democrats have been very clear that the border wall is a non-starter. The House passed a bunch of spending bills that included some funding for it before the recess. But they aren't expected to pass the Senate. More here from back in July.

Meanwhile, Ryan is out with his double talk:

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan said Wednesday he saw no need for a federal shutdown over the border wall funds, which the House has already approved, as Congress works to secure the money through the fiscal year appropriation bills.
