I don't see this wall getting built.  Trump doesn't even have the money to start the engineering survey, let alone start building all the infrastructure necessary to move supplies into place and start building this stupid thing.

But that doesn't matter to him or his audience. All the latter wants to hear is "we're building a wall to keep the scary messicans out". Trump will say that to keep them haply.

yeah, well if they don't do any sort of survey and plan out the details (and put those details into the budget) then his wall ain't getting built.  And I don't see the Democrats voting for any budget that includes that stuipd wall.

oh I think the government shut down bit is going to happen for sure....but not because trump wants it.  the GOP doesn't want to be seen openly supporting trump right now (for obvious reasons) and the Democrats have every reason to block and delay trump's budget as much as humanly possible.  we're heading for a shut down, the only question is for how long.  thing is - I don't know anyone who could get the GOP all on the same page and get a budget done on time.

But as for trumps wall?  yeah, I don't think that's happening.  he hasn't even allocated funding to survey the proposed terrain where this fantasy wall is allegedly going to be built.

Ah, I see.  It's the fault of the Democrats that these bills aren't getting passed, despite the fact that both House AND Senate are majority Republicans, each having enough to pass anything they want even if every Democrat votes "nay".

House needs 218 (of 435) votes (simple majority); they have 234 Republican members.
Senate needs 51 of 100 votes; they have 54.

Those fauking Democrats.

Who would have thought building 1000 miles across South Texas desert  would be more complicated than building on a half block in Manhattan with readily available roads, utilities, and infrastructure? Who indeed, except every farking structural engineer who was asked about it and flat out said it would be a decade long money pit, if everything went right.

i'm not even an engineer and just pondering the logistics of getting that stupid thing built gives me the sweats.  we're going to have to build roads and support infrastructure in some of the most desolate, inhospitable terrain this country owns.  AND we're going to do this from scratch.

if we do this, we'll bleed money out our eyeballs for DECADES.  it'll make the gulf war look like pocket change.

Only the best people knew?  I was less worried about construction costs than about maintainence costs.  We don't build shiat like the pyramids and the Great Wall any longer.

I didn't get that far in my thinking - I hit the 'OMG we're going to build this WHERE!?  is he f*cking STUPID!?' and my brain shut down.  actually maintaining all that infrastructure is another constant expense that will only get MORE expensive every year, not less.  the weather out there is not kind to any sort of permanent structure.

Let us assume we fast forward to the 2020 election AND Trump is still there.  Does he get re-elected without a wall?  Do the xenophobic people that voted for him turn to the next loud voice that promises them they will keep the 'other' people away?  Can he truly spin it and blame Democrats for that failure when his party controls the entire government?  Does the 2018 election outcome determine whether he can spin that?  (Assuming, big IF, the Dems regain House control)

At this point, all the legislators and former legislators still living don't have the funds to cover that.  They sold us into debt for generations and have run away with golden government parachutes and millions in kickbacks.

Just another example of how insulated Trump is from reality. When you've got actual staffers working to keep him from seeing negative news, events like this are just the natural progression. He has surrounded himself with sycophants and it shows, glaringly.

IF he was even half competent, he'd realize his base has already accepted that the wall won't get built, and have moved on to other shiatty thing. Bringing this up does nothing but remind them of his failed promises.

Not that it will matter anyways, none of this matters anyways. They will forget or rationalize it as they've done with everything else. When you run a platform of anti-science, anti-reality, anti-facts, the sky is the limit to the kind of dumb shiat you can say and get away with. Nothing short of impeachment, heart attack, jail, or an unfortunate accident is going to end this mr bones' wild ride.

2017-08-23 05:23:24 AM
wait - trump IS going to do an engineering and environmental survey prior to building his wall, right?  I mean...only and IDIOT would start a major project and NOT do the homework before hand, right?

RIGHT!?

oh f*ck, we're boned.

But, but... I have it on good authority from Scott Adams and the New York Times that the United States Army Corps of Engineers has already started thinking about outlining a plan to begin preparations for developing an exploratory committee tasked with initiating a study of the feasibility of devising a methodology for building a wall. Plus, they've already dug a couple of holes in the desert, so it's like almost half done already!

They don't have to cover it, just be responsible for it. Let generations of their own families be debt slaves.

Doubtful. He couldn't walk 500 yards during the G20 in Germany without getting so winded he needed a golf cart. Germany in June is a lot more comfortable than Laredo in August. He'd pass out from heat stroke before getting out of the truck.

I wonder what excuse he'll come up with next when congress tells him to GTFO. He's basically burned through all reserves of good will in the GOP and at this point they aren't going to indulge any of his stupid vanity projects. In fact I'm sure they're secretly hoping that he resigns before he fatally wounds their mid term election prospects.

he will blame it on Obama, or Hillary and of course his trumpers will believe it.  then he'll go hold another campaign rally to make himself feel better, trigger 3 days of constant rioting and blame THAT on 'the violent left wing', while eating popcorn and masturbating furiously to news reports of widespread violence and cities on fire.

meanwhile, the GOP will be busy hiding from the press and refusing to remove trump from office because [reasons]

Unlike health care and tax reform, budget reconciliation can't be used for the wall, so for this he does need 60 votes, meaning he would need to get at least 6 Democrats to vote for it.

But, of course, that's not the problem he's pretending doesn't exist. At least four Republican senators whose state borders would have the wall - Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Will Hurd (TX), Martha McSally (AZ), and Steve Pearce (NM) - do not want it.

Mitch McConnell announced this week that raising the debt ceiling will happen on schedule with no government shutdown this year, so Trump doesn't even have an opportunity to cause one for any reason, including funding the wall.

He's probably counting on the military to just pull up stakes from everywhere and come set up shop on the border.  The stories are legendary of the various branches showing up to some vast undeveloped part of the world, and within weeks, there are roads, landing strips, outposts, you name it, Uncle Sam has set it up.  Oh one other thing, that happens in time of war or catastrophe.
IOW, not happening.

How can anyone still be a Republican? I mean I know there's a few mentally ill people who don't understand what's going on, but I don't understand why almost anyone is a member of that party. I thought the same thing in 2004 though. I'm sure a lot of people thought the same in 1973.
