The variation between states isn't exactly huge (~5-12%). Without sample sizes*, I can't tell if there really are between-state differences or whether what we're seeing is random.

/*Yes, I know it's 92M total, but that could be 91M from New York and California, and 5 from Montana.
//Can the software distinguish between a post with toxic content and a post responding to (and quoting) toxic content?

...34 percent of comments are hostile. But 99 percent of those come from just two authors

I think that right there summarizes trolling here on Fark

/2 authors, 100 alts

INTERNET RULE #1: Never read the comments.

While that's not a bad suggestion, the author has clearly never read the rules of the internet.

Except for Vermont. I could see there being a lot of people who feel very strongly about politics and social issues there, though. Or, it's 2 dudes skewing the results since only 12 people live in Vermont.

2017-08-22 10:59:17 AM
So basically the whole country is between 6-10 percent. Not really that informative.

Based on the Fark Politics tab Kentucky should be closer to black in color.

What's up with Vermont?  Bernie fans?

Smaller sample size could account for possible error.

Park Forest is a shiathole. And that's coming from a guy from Chicago Heights.

2017-08-22 11:04:17 AM
the most common time for trolling is at bar closing time. Some of the most offensive shiat I have ever had thrown at me by complete strangers has been right about the time they get home drunk from the bar. I think it might have to do with their drunken self-hate and flaccid, unused penis.

Park Forest, IL

The most toxic city in the US, where 34 percent of comments are hostile. But 99 percent of those come from just two authors.

Harry grew up here. Best place in the world to be a kid. Great parks, the plaza and the forest preserves.

--Response #1 Idiot dont know wat hes talking cause world's changed. Go to the park - get mugged. Go to the plaza, get robbed. Go to the forest preserve, get mugged and robbed!
--Response #2 Response #1 doesn't know what they are talking about. I take my children everywhere in Park Forest and I feel safe and among friends everywhere I go.
--Response #1 You the reason for all this trouble. You take you kids to the plaza? Are you crazy biatch? That's like asking them to be kidnapped and killed but not before they get raped and their raping videod on periscope! I took my kids there once and now theys gone! Gone!

(Technically, Harry was born in Chicago Height. He is now, officially, from there.)

--Response 1 Chicago Heights? Surprised you arent full of toxic wastes or drugs or both! And them doctors at that hospital are on whack crack. They drop babies out the fifth floor straight in to dumpsters. Called the CH Abortion! None of my babies got aborted! Just kidnapped and video raped when they went to the plaza! Also killed.

And then there is Vermont.  Last I checked, the state had fewer people than Rochester New York.

I lived in Burlington for a couple of years, I do not get this, unless it's an extension of that weird New England angry letter to the editor thing that they do so well.

Lots and lots of very right wing and Fiercely independant mountain towns versus the two Big Cities (burlington and montpielier) might account for it.  I guess Vermont is kind of what you would get if you took chunks of California and distilled it...

Trolls Across America

It is obvious by now that Trump will not get the Mexicans to build and pay for a wall to protect America from people who want to work and to follow the American Dream (unless he keeps destroying America at the rate he and his Alts have been doing). So Americans will have to step up and finish the job.

By Americans, I do not mean normal and decent Purple Staters, who still cling to the shreds of dignity and liberal values inherent in the Bible and the Constitution. I mean TROLLS.

TROLLS MUST BUILD THE WALL.

It is easy enough for them to do.

All they have to do is come out of their Mother's Basement on the dim light of the next New Moon, line up along the border holding hands from the Gulf of Mexico to the Baha California. When the light of the dawn strikes them, they will, according to all authorities on Trolls, turn to stone. America will not have a wall of iron and concrete, nor even a beautiful wall of pious stained glass and plexiglass.

It will have a wall of Trolls. Not quite as good as the Wall of Men that the Greeks proudly built to protect their own democracy, rule of laws, freedom of thought and speech, and  other Grecian liberties. But good enuf.

And ain't nobody got time for that. Nobody is going to cross a wall of trolls, especially open carry trolls. Not even Antifacists.

I never tire of seeing XKCD cartoons. I am not being sarcastic. I really never tire of XKCD cartoons. They are the greatest cartoons since the invention of the stick man. And like the Simpsons, South Park, or Rick and Morty, they seem to cover all available ground to the point you can not even begin to imagine what they will do next.

I look forward to every new one and backwards to every old one, even the tiny number that either flopped or left me perplexed what to think or feel.
