Oddly, the judge was not the one from that case, so wonder what the connection is.

Yeah that kind of takes me knee-jerk "probably about that" theory right out the window.  Unless he just wanted to off a judge because of it, any judge would do.

"This individual laid in wait for our judge," Abdalla said, tearing up during his remarks. "It just hurts. First thing on Monday morning, you have a judge shot in front of his courthouse ... This was an ambush and an attempted murder on our judge."

Is it important for some reason that this happened on Monday morning rather than, say, Wednesday afternoon? Does this make it worse somehow? I almost expected the next paragraph of the story to read as follows:

"Tell me why," the judge demanded. "Tell me why," onlookers asked again. "I don't like Muh-hun-days," the suspect calmly responded.

This obviously isn't that. The apple may not have even fallen from the tree, much less far from it.

Well, for starters, it was a quote. That's what he said. When you're in shock or hurting, you sometimes just say things. They may not make any sense, but you say them because you're struggling to put words and thoughts to what just happened.

Second, it's a courthouse. They don't work Sundays, or probably Saturdays. Hell, our local courthouse only works like three days a week due to local budget cuts. So imagine, you're coming in from your weekend off, you're getting ready to go to work, and then somebody shoots at your boss. That's gonna fark up your work day, and the rest of your week too.

So. Yeah. First thing Monday morning. I don't see anything odd about him saying that.

Yeah, would you rather have two days to go home and collect your thoughts after something like this happens, or have to face coming back every day for an entire week and getting work done?

While I'd really, really like to agree with you because I also have this problem, The Washington Post is one of the few places left that does actual journalism.  So they are one of the few places that I think we should try to support.  I'd suggest you maybe whitelist just them.  The low risk of malware is probably worth supporting actual journalism.

Dallas's PD wasn't responsible for the police violence that kept keeps making the news, and in fact their chief had been working hard to drum out risky officers, but they were the ones who got shot at because they were a public and convenient target.
