The goal isn't to attack Trump, it is to to tar Republicans who vote for or against censure.  Kick in the balls either way.

Which "them" is the "them" in the headline referring to?

Pelosi and the Democrats?

Trump and the gang?

Nazis?

There's no way Paul Ryan would agree to add the censure resolution to anything Congress is considering over the next month. He's already having trouble getting enough Republicans on his side; asking them to vote with him AND censure the president at the same time would completely kill the legislation.

It's pretty hard for the minority to slip something into a bill or an amendment in the House. It's absolutely a tyranny of the majority setup.

That's the point. Make Republicans go on record as refusing to do anything about Trump's comments about Charlottesville.

Except they can't force a vote because they aren't in the majority, and Ryan isn't going along with that.

Pelosi was the last effective Speaker the House has had.

She got the ACA passed despite Blue Dogs in her own party and every single Republican digging in their heels.

The current speaker can't even get something that his own party has been running on for the last 7 years passed.

It's not offensive.  It's hilarious.  The dumbass is going to be half blind for the next few days and slightly less sighted for the rest of his life, short as that may be.  Fortunately it shouldn't impact his ability to do his job as he appears incapable of reading anyway.

They are assuming Pelosi is only going to try and add this to the debt ceiling resolution.  But considering most Republicans are adamant about voting against that as-is, she has no reason to do so.  She wants to use it on something Louis Gohmert does want to vote for - so the No Taxes on Income Above $!M Act of 2017.

Diagramming it briefly, the core of the sentence is:

"Support for effort to sanction Trump gives them leverage."

Rewording it to improve pronoun clarity just dumps the Pelosi bit, as it's kind of extraneous anyway.

Dems efforts to sanction Trump over his remarks on Charlottesville could give them leverage on pending legislation.

Subs just wanted to toss something about Pelosi in there because s/he was hoping for this thread to be more than 50 posts long.

Congress has a lot to deal with: North Korea, government funding, raising the debt limit, health care, tax reform, supposedly infrastructure.

Interesting what's suddenly vanished from the left-o-sphere now that Democrats have a new hobby horse to ride. Collusion with Russia? Russian vote tampering? Putin's sock puppet, Donald Trump? Hello, is anybody out there?

Here's the problem: The GOP controls the House and Senate. But congressional Republicans historically have struggled to "govern."

Made me laugh.

That's in Mueller's hands right now. That's not something the Republican Congress is expected to take up, like eberything else in that list.

That's the sticking point.  By a strict, basic prescriptivist reading "them" refers to the pro-fa brigade.  However, since the "and Charlottesville" part does indicate the pro-fa are being used as a metonym, if the phrase is to make sense that word can be ignored for pronoun-noun agreement, so the pronoun-noun agreement would flow back to Democrats.

By a descriptivist reading, it is obvious them refers to teh DEocrats.

It's a great plan.  You won't believe how great the plan is.  Everyone who's seen the plan says it's the best plan they've ever seen.  There's a lot of losers out there who say there isn't a plan, but they're just jealous of how amazing a plan it is.

I was confused, being on a fox news article and it not being all WHARGARBLE!  but then I got to

"The House approved a health care bill; the Senate stumbled. "

Hell, the House approved something just to say they did knowing the Senate would actually have to try to make it work.  Being *slightly* more honest you might say that the House passed the buck to the senate who wasn't able to work things out...

that and the comments on "rapturous joy" which please, Right has a stranglehold on that.
