(Guardian)   Alas, poor Swansea. I knew them, Arsenal. A 7:30 am ET match of infinite jest. Then, hath Bournemouth on the back a thousand stings from Watford. Give unto me Potters and Gunners at 12:30. And of course, merry matches on Sunday at 8:30 am   ( theguardian.com) divider line

The odds of me watching any match before 9:30 PDT seem rather slim.  I hope to sleep in after a day of driving for 15.5 hours.

In case you read this in time:

Midpoint is running the annual prediction game starting this week at Talksport.  The Fark league is accessible via code erj70 .  Even if you miss out on the early game, you can still enter picks for the later games before they start.

There is also a Fark league being run by Pista on the Fantasy Premier League site that begins this week.  The invite code for the league is in his profile.  This one you have to have your team set up by an hour before the start of the Gameweek (about 2.5 hours from the time of this post), but if you miss out on GW 2 you can make a team starting in the next gameweek.

I'm hoping it won't be a slaughter...

But I think it's gonna be a slaughter.

Looks like that is on the cards. Unchanged from last week, but he has got Lindelof on the bench this week

Stoke v Arsenal is the evening game for me on BT. While I don't think it's going to be like the days of old when it was a very fragile Arsenal against a very agricultural Stoke (injuries and red cards being more likely than goals) with a guaranteed rant from Wenger in the post match interview. Stoke play better football than that now, and Arsenal aren't quite so easily muscled out of games.

Finally off work. Looks like I'm gonna miss the early game. Hopefully I'll make it in time for the Liverpool match.

Oh FFS, why am I even awake right now?  Should I just make coffee and attempt to power through the whole day without a nap to reset my biorhythm or go back to sleep and assume Swansea got their asses handed to them?

You're right. United doesn't stand a chance.

They're showing the super bike race instead.

Insomnia.  I was up at this time yesterday for the early start on that 15.5 hour drive.  Believe me, I wish I was still asleep.

Is playing with a back 3 the new fad this year because of what Conte did with Chelsea?

A few teams are trying it for sure.
But Untidy are playing 4-2-3-1 by the looks of it.
Swansea with 4-3-3

Wenger's favorite players are both big and technically proficient (Vieira, Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Diaby, Petit), but when he can't find (or afford) that type of player, when been forced to choose between a player that is really technically adept and one that's big, he's chosen technical. He also loved choosing attacking midfielders, but wasn't as good at picking good defenders (in fact, there's a hilarious story of the Arsenal players overpraising a walk-on defender to piss off Martin Keown, and Wenger thought their praise was serious and gave the player a four-year deal). So defensively, I expect Arsenal to do much better this season, and we'll see how the arrival of Lacazette impacts their attack.

So far, Swans are looking far better than I expected. We'll see how long they can keep defending like this.

I have to agree with this.  I expected them to be playing catch up by now.

He's on my fantasy team. Now he needs to score a goal to make up for it. I demand personal restitution!

Yep. They're ripe for a swift break to win a free kick on the edge of the area where Gylfi.... of wait....

They do look far more likely to score first. I banked on United today; if they lose to Swans, it'll be disaster for me in Predictor.

But it would be sooooooooooo worth it.

Hey, nice chip, Rashford!

And there's the dam break...

2017-08-19 08:16:34 AM
And finally a goal for United.  Great save against Pogba by Fabianski, but ooor defending.  If Bailly missed that, it would have been the Rooneyest thing possible

Bailly plays the ball with his studs. Like he does with other players

2017-08-19 08:21:03 AM
Dang it. Woke up late, so couldn't get a predictor in for United/Swans.

Which has led to me making coffee, banking on Arsenal at Stoke.

I'm also pre-emptively cursing at Scoonthorpe as I think they're going to spoil the MIGHTY Oxford United's 100% record in League One.

Swansea crowd are on Rashford's back a lot here because of a perceived dive against them in a previous game. Hartson on bbc radio seems to think it's getting to him, that for some reason the needle is rattling him.

They showed the goals from that game before this one started & have to say it looked pretty darn divey.
