Great, now bring back Astroworld you dicks.

As such, we have changed the flag displays in our park to feature American flags

-Spain
-France
-Mexico
-Republic of Texas
-Confederate States of America
-United States of America

Uh, only one (three?) of those flags is an American flag.

Anyone notice that FN has been locking comments on articles a lot more the past few weeks? They do that when they know it's a bad article about Trump or their base will get toxic in the comments.

I'm guessing it's the latter for this one.

1) This is one of the only circumstances where I think you could actually argue the historical angle.
2) they could use the actual CSA flag instead of the stars'n'bars and most people would be ok with that, I suspect.

I'm okay with flying the CSA flag in this context, because it is just a factual statement of TX history. Of course that is not the CSA flag, but that's another rant.

Well, go to Dolly Wood, that's like Six Flags for white people.

I say we take away all Flags and make it No Flags Over Texas.

They do seem to be blessed with copious amounts of free time.

Gules, a fess Argent, in a canton Azure seven mullets of five points of the Second.

Given the context, I don't mind Six Flags having that flag up. Although if they understandably decide not to have that flag up, I know of the perfect alternative:

Argent.

If the knuckle draggers of America weren't drawn to the thing like moths to a flame we could keep it.

They are taking down all of the others, only keeping the current American one.

Huh.  I thought they were rid of it long ago, but I haven't been to Six Flags Over Texas in decades.

This one has been due for a long time.  I wonder what changes they've made to the Old South section.

my humble suggestion for replacement to maintain the Six Flags name:

They should just delete the comments they don't like like Fark does.

But the actual flag is the one called the "Stars and Bars"

I also want to point out the article is wrong when it says:
"The "Southern Cross" Confederate flag replaced the original design, which caused confusion on the battle field because of similarities to the Union flag
when referring to the modern "Confederate Flag" because the battle flag was square, not rectangular. The modern rectangular form only appeared during the civil rights movement explicitly a sign of opposition to the movement. I'm sure nearly all Farkers know this, but seeing a news article say something so blatantly wrong made me feel the need to point it out.

Not principally, but I cannot say that was not an element.  Texans fought their revolution for some of the same reasons that Americans did - rule from afar, no representation, and some severe laws and restrictions on the ability of Texans to be Texan, which probably did include slavery.  It happened similarly to the American Revolution in that people of a different stripe moved into a new area and wanted to be their own thing.

That is all an oversimplification and I invite you to check out even just the wikipedia pages, but no, the Texas Revolution was not fought over the right to own slaves explicitly.

If there's a conversation about crap jobs, I generally win with my story of 15 hour days of cleaning bathrooms and collecting trash at Six Flags. 9am, start preppring the company picnic area, collect trash and clean bathrooms until the sun is going down, then clean the bathrooms in the amphitheater, then gather trash as the concert goes on or do other bathrooms around the park, then after the concert we cleaned the amphitheater from top to bottom.

The worst was a black preacher revival show. Mounds of turkey legs, program fans.

One time I wanged my leg on a trailer hitch for the garbage scow behind the amphitheater, which I couldn't see because an executive had parked next to it and blocked the lighting. That was my third time visiting the infirmary, which had a dozen beds for some reason. In hindsight I think the exec was worried I'd blame him for blocking the light.

/the other times involved getting hurt on rides
//it's a wonder I haven't been there in 20 years

No, they did not succeed from Mexico.

If anything, they seceded.

2017-08-19 03:27:24 AM
What happened was that they replaced all five of the not-American flags with American flags, so now the display is six American flags.

mechgreg: Didn't Texas succeed from Mexico over slavery as well? Will they be taking that flag down too?

No, they did not.   They rebelled, along with a bunch of other Mexican provinces concurrently, over Santa Ana tossing out the federalist 1821 Mexican constitution to implement a centralist government.  Texas was just the only one that had their rebellion actually stick.
