(Fark)   Though it maybe awkward to implement I would like link voting adding to the mobile app. Who's with me, and why?   ( fark.com) divider line

The mobile app isnt an official Fark app

Just use the Fark website, and use the desktop site because the mobile version sucks

(shrugs) It's the official iOS app.

Some people use the mobile site while on their phones because they can't use the main site on their phones. It kind of why Drew made the mobile site in the first place -- likewise with most other websites that have desktop and mobile versions.

If Subby is talking about the mobile site when (s)he says "mobile app," then I say it should happen. It'd make the mobile site suck just a little bit less.

Sure, go for it.

Could they add a link to order popcorn and booze too?

Not that any of these will result in anything happening at all.

Maybe the link button can ring a bell in Drew's outhouse?

Just go look at the top voted. Votes don't really equate to anything as I pointed out in the HOTW post

In summary then, no-one really wants the mobile site or app to improve, and no-one really cares about seeing high-quality, user-influenced headlines appearing in each section. Remember when the NFL changed to the No Fun League... you may have seen a 'This is fine' cartoon recently?

I use the mobile site almost exclusively. I'd second the inclusion of voting links up or down, and also add that it would nice to enable voting for posts in contest threads. Beyond that: it works for me.

2017-08-18 03:52:10 PM
I'd be down with adding link voting to the mobile app.

A couple other changes I would like would be to add 'My Recent' to the bottom buttons instead of a link on the menu. Maybe put 'triggers' under settings instead of a dedicated button.

Also move the 'log out' button from the top of the menu to the bottom. Can't tell you how many times I hit the menu button, it stalled, and I select it again only for it to think I selected 'log out'.

Heh, yeah, good point! I've come to a painful conclusion: that maybe my English is just too English for people here‽

(scatters cushions about to break the falls I seem to be setting up)

Proposal: a polite request for an update to the existing official iOS app and existing mobile site to enhance the experience of those using them, by using existing infrastructure, namely the addition of link voting.

Eh. The mobile version is fine for doctors' waiting rooms and while you're waiting for the cops to let your friends out on bail.

Pretty much.
I think it was you with the submission about that guy that died and I commented there as well.
Like I said, I don't know how the selection process works. I assume it's not all manual.

If it's not all manual, whatever algorithm they're using sucks giant squirrel balls.if it is all manual, then whoever is doing it probably wears their pants on their head.

Agreed. 12mb still but only 2mb gifs?  Maybe someone better at internet then me can explain why this makes sense. As far as I know, file size it file size. Whether or not it's moving doesn't matter

Reduce the still to 2 and increase the gifs to 5

Get rid of the voting entirely. If someone wants to enlarge the size of their pecker with fake internet points, Reddit has them covered.

Wondering if jpegs are served by the site compressed at lower resolution/quality than uploaded, and with clicky links to hi-res versions, but gifs must be served at the size uploaded.

I once asked the question via Farkback

I was told it was because of mobile devices and their CPUs having probs with rendering a thread with a shiatton of animated GIFs

callmeox: What is link voting and does it require that I RTFA?

Link voting is available on the desktop site - but only for TotalFark accounts. It gives us a look at the firehose of submissions before they're triaged by the admins for publication; it's a way to give us the illusion we can in some way influence the appearance of a headline. Now, I'm sure there's a massively complex selection flowchart including the percentage of influence allowed by the admins, to prevent overt fraud, but my public requests for it have so far fallen on deaf ears.

/don't be taken in by the apparent seriousness of my post, I really haven't got a clue what I'm doing here
