Eh, I am a former cocaine abuser and yes, it can be smelled without snorting it but usually in larger quantities like an 8 ball.

And yes, I am amazed I survived it.

I honestly did think it was odorless.  I guess I haven't done enough cocaine.

Well yes, but a whole bundle of money smelling like it?  Would've had to be coated in it.  I'm calling bull.  They found a reason to search him AFTER they searched him.

From reddit:
It smells like perfume or gasoline a lot of times. In college my buddy had me hold a half zip of coke for him in my apartment because i didn't use it and he didn't trust himself and if i opened the little container he had it in I could smell it from 3 yards away. It smelled like old lady perfume kind of, seriously more potent than good weed. It was really good, shiny, rocked up fishscale. I did try it with him and it was very very good but coke isn't my DOC.

"allegedly following too closely"

Why do they even bother including why the detectives pulled him over? They are literally paid to run everybody's plates and make up some stupid story about why they pulled you over. If they find something you get arrested; if they don't they say "hey be more careful out there" and drive away.

Yeah that kind of stood out to me as well.   Unless the guy stashed the money in the same bags he had the bundles of coke in...

I expected this to be another asset seizure outrage story, but it turns out to be........pretty much standard fare.  Not really sure how they're going to make those charges stick - maybe they're hoping to get more dirt on him though.  He won't get the money back unless he can show how it is legally his (he won't) but they can't really convict him over a halfway decent defense without actually being able to show what crime the $$ was either from or going to be used for.  Nearly $200,000 will end up in the evidence locker.

It pretty much smells like whatever chemical agent was used to cut it. So I don't know what the cops smelled, but I'm sure they got a kick out of it when they double checked and breathed deep.

Gasoline/diesel is used in the refining and the smell is very strong and lingers.  You gotta be cutting it pretty darn weak to override that hydrocarbon smell.

The smell and taste is something that I would compare to some sort of cleaner. It's definitely not as potent as, say, ammonia, but it does have this really astringent taste that it leaves in the back of the throat.

GanjSmokr: "The K-9 provided a positive reaction to the odor of narcotics," according to the complaint.

Yup, especially when they admit that the traffic stop was engineered in order to search the car:

"In May, they found out Flores was headed to New Jersey and detectives pulled him over in Hackensack for allegedly following another car too closely. "

Detectives do not pull over cars for minor moving violations.

Yeah, I've also heard that actual cocaine is odorless in small amounts, and that when narcotics officers "taste" it they're checking for a numbing sensation on their tongue, not a taste in itself.

So the cops in this story probably made it up.

Seems the Prosecutor is pretty confident that Character Assassination and Hearsay are all that's needed for an asset forfeiture case. And he's most likely right. The Government has long abandoned the welfare of it's Citizens and is more interested in depriving as many people of their Lives, Liberty and Property as they can

Same.  And if someone is sticking their nose in the little baggie of coke frankly I'm assuming they're just trying to take more than their fair share.  Not cool - that shiat is expensive!

Kerosene, actually.   There was a really good documentary on the production process many decades ago that I saw on television.    There was one particular scene which struck me as rather amusing.    The police staged a fake raid to make it look like they were actually doing something about the problem.  They even had actors wearing wigs to make them look more like the stereotypical (i guess) bad guys from a neighboring country.

One of the quotes that stuck with me was "If you get a chance to see how this is made, you likely won't have an urge to try it."

This was about 30 years ago, and I have no idea what the name of the documentary was.

Ah ok.  I guess thst makes sense.  I have never been around kerosene so i didn't have a frame of reference.
