There are stories like this in the U.S. as well.  They don't make the news because of many reasons - just look at the politics tab.

That constable has a true understanding of, "To protect and serve." Protected the public, served a citizen (at least).

/well done.

I truly wonder if Canada will lift up her skirt, spread open her pale sun deprived legs and let Farkers sleep with her after all these Canadian ass kissing threads.

I pretty sure we've all been friend zoned.

How in all of Hades to positive stories about cops get green lit on this site?  I mean, according to just about every Farker on this site cops are the most evil, vile scum of the earth and if they ever confronted a cop they would kill them.

So Carlton became a cop.  Good for him.

In general, and in my book:
Shoplifting (for) food =\= young teen shoplifting =\= adult shoplifting for thrills

Appropriate placement against the story below it.

Some of which may be that they're usually sandwiched inbetween horrifying stories of abuse and corruption.

I hope this cop also pointed the kid towards any of the numerous ways to get financial assistance in Toronto as well, but it's still a nice story of doing the right thing for an idiot.

Only US cops. Other countries actually train their cops and they have to go through psych and fitness exams.

There are plenty of cops that shouldn't be cops up here too. The training/screening isn't all that different.

It's easier for cops in other countries to be nice to the people they contact because they generally don't have to worry as much about those contacts shooting at them.

i have no great love for cops, very few ever gave me a break, but a few have been decent when hassling me and given me a little break, and a couple, both in kansas actually went out of their way to help...

once when thumbing my way from salina kansas down to oklahoma i ended up in hutchinson and i was just walking down the road and it was getting well on towards dark and this cop stopped and asked where i was going so i told him and he got me something to eat and gave me a ride otu to where i would not have so much local traffic to contend with and gave me five bucks to boot...

the other time i was driving from tulsa ok to denver in the chevy vega i had recently purchased and was just going somewhere else for a short time, well going down l-70 about two miles from the goodland exit the oil filter gasket blew out(second time) and lights started flashing and buzzers started buzzing and the engine shut down, it had a failsafe fro low oil, so because it has happened brfore i know i need to get some more oil but it is late and i have to walk to the exit, got there just as the last store was rolling up the sidewalk and had to beg the guy to let me get a couple cans of oil, so i head back to my car, full dark by this time...

i get far enough down the road that i can see my car and here comes a khp car and the cop leans out the window and starts in with whatchou doin' out heah walking on my highway, boy...

so i tell him the whole story and goes get in and took me over to the car and parked so he could shine his headlights on my car, making it so much easier...

i discovered later that the oil filter was actually for a corvair(?) and had a stupid gasket that stands up in a groove and if you tighten it to much it is already squeezing out,,,

when i put it on myself just barely tightening it i never had another problem... three different shops screwed it, and the first shop, a firestone store ordered three filters from the same parts supplier for a 72 vega and got something else each time and were ready to just give up and try to send me on my way without a filter, destroyed it driving a screw drive through it to twist it off, and through it away...

finally i had to go in the shop and let them know just how stupid they were when i suggested they get the old one and order another one with the same part number, because they were going to get another of the same one listed in their book, twas many a year before i ever went to a firehut store again....

That's not accurate at all. Also police in Canada make about 50k more than US cops do a year on average.
