Having short hair means never having to buy conditioner in the first place. Or paying a barber $15+ for something that you can do yourself.

Nope. This is the media trying to get people glued to their TV's and web sites. NK won't be launching nukes and neither will we. As a clue to this, how you wash your hair after a nuclear attack implies that a) you will live through it and still have hair and b) if you do live through it that you will still have normal basic services like city water (and electricity and so on) and finally c) that having shining flowing hair will be high on your priority list instead of, you know, food and drinking water. dirty hair and BO should be right at the bottom of any list of priorities.

Remember SCUDs, or Buzzbombs or V2s?

It's always the same. You spend money on developing the rocket. You spend money on making a lethal warhead.

Do you spend money on a super accurate guidance system that includes minute tweaking of trajectory? And last mile delivery like it's Amazon Prime Now? I don't think so.

It's one thing to launch with a live warhead. It's quite another to run for the bunker because that damn thing has turned around and wants to get back to the starting gate.

Also the headline has one of my pet peeves in it. Sudden radiation exposure (gamma/neutron) from a nuclear bomb isn't applicable to not using conditioner (it's too late to do anything about that). Contamination is applicable. Conditioner can catch more fallout than just washing your hair with a bar of soap and water (a bar of Zest is probably your best choice because it won't leave behind a lot of soap residue that can trap contamination) and that (conditioner) can lead to radiation exposure to varying degrees depending on a lot of variables, mostly alpha and beta radiation.

Ya -- and how do you live? Can you live around the world, going anywhere and everywhere for as long as you want? I can, and no I'm not rich -- I'm the very ideal of Randian Libertarians, though I don't subscribe to that view -- self made, self sufficient, an explorer, risk taker and entrepreneur. And definitely far cooler and sexier than you.

Sure I don't like this Nation -- as anyone who despises fascism, ignorance and brutality would.
So why not go where I will find happiness? And why begrudge me of that?
Do you deny that the US is a Fascist Prison Society? If so, show your work

To me at least, it looks increasingly likely that the Right and Left are squaring off for an Epic Battle all while marching blindly into global conflicts in Asia and the Middle East. So, from my point of view, I'd much rather be enjoying a nice laid back life abroad with a glass of mezcal in hand when I turn on the TV to watch DC burning

But hey -- thanks for the "tip" trying to lure me to a possible death. Says a lot about you

Not unless you have a vent in your closet. What you're trying to get rid of is radioactive dust that will emit radiation.

No, you will be left bereft of utilities by the EMP, and will simply have to rely upon self-sufficient conservatives , (who know how to hunt, fish, and protect themselves), for your new hand-to-mouth existence.

Meh.  That would probably be worse, for you, than incineration.  And having to do without conditioner.

So what you're saying is expect an ass to hand to mouth existence?

A fellow student of mine was in Minsk when Chernobyl went into melt down. When she got home (to Scotland) the Scottish authorities (at the airport, I presume) decontaminated her baggage but sticking packing tape on it and ripping it off again. Presumably this lifted some of the radioactive dust, if nothing else.

So remember: in preparation for a nuclear war, you will need a lot of duct tape and other kinds of tape such as packing tape, medical tape and so forth for all purposes. They have a thousand and one uses such as taping up your windows and doors against the blast and radiation, decontaminating dusty objects, and of course, making sturdy plastic body bags for yourself and the whole family. Don't forget pets! Unless of course they are indoor pets, in which case you should probably think of eating them as soon as possible.

Thanks. it's not so much about affordability though, since most places in Latin America have a far lower cost of living -- It's a matter of finding ways to obtain steady income that doesn't require you to be tied down.
You can setup an LLC or S Corp and can take gigs where ever without violating labor restrictions since it's Corp to Corp Business Transactions rather than employment

I think the biggest obstacle is "Letting Go", embracing Chaos and using it as a Ladder. I eased in by living exclusively off of AirBnB around the US the last few months and am now prepping my big leap abroad.

Potassium iodide may be rationed in an emergency.

On the other hand, very elderly people would probably be better off without it, so you can leave it for the younger people.

I am sort of at that awkward age (middle age) where I would probably want it, but not get it, but really it wouldn't do a whole lof of good any way. With luck I might be far enough away from the targets to miss the major radiation fallout. Also, as long as I have everything I need, I can just stay indoors and reduce exposure.

I hope you have washable filters on your AC, etc., and also that you have plenty of vacuum bags you can seal and dump (appropriately). A vaccum cleaner or air filter might be of great use if you have the electricity and skills to run it. The radiation will be in the air, water and dust until it is buried in the soil and sediments.

This. I forget which Farker said it but in earlier thread it was noted that either side has too much to lose from a nuclear exchange (whichever side launches first will be either lose Chinese support, or will make an enemy of China). The current situation is nothing more than sabre rattling, and toddler tantruming

brantgoose: The radiation will be in the air, water and dust until it is buried in the soil and sediments.

CONTAMINATION dammit! The contamination will be radioactive (most of it short lived, the long lived contamination isn't terribly radioactive which is why the recommendation is to protect yourself for about two weeks from any fallout while the really nasty stuff "Burns itself out"). You might want to be careful about places that don't get "Washed" by rain but may condense contamination like the underside of fences (as an example). I'd have to say "Don't lick those places". Keep on confusing radiation with contamination and I might rescind that advice...

;P

So mix the shampoo with paint thinner?
