Anyone wearing a fedora should be summarily institutionalised. Just to be on the safe side. They're either hipsters or incels, and now, bank robbers.

No good has ever come from a fedora.

I haven't worn anything more fancy than jeans and a long sleeve t-shirt in at least 15 years. I don't even own a pair of slacks or a dress shirt.

This is the only "proper" attire for robbing a bank:

Pin-striped suit, fedora.....and a mother-farking tommy-gun

I was originally going to say "Good luck buying a Thompson, even in semi-automatic at today's prices". But then I did a little research. The original Thompson sold for $200 in 1921, which, accounting for inflation is $2,685 in 2016. You can buy a new semi-automatic Thompson platform for between $900 and $1200. I guess the last time I looked at prices they were a niche market with expert craftsmen making them, going for $2000+, but that was 7 years ago.

But really, 13 pounds for a sub-machine gun? You really don't need to go that far to control the .45 ACP. I'd expect 13 pounds on a 7.62 rifle.

Ok, you beat me by a fair margin but that is definitly NOT a farking fedora.  And yes, i do think his choice of attire should inform his prison sentence.  And by inform i mean substantially lenghth it.

I very nearly did the standard "trilby != fedora" post when the thread first when green, but it's been done to death.

like fedoras though, I associate them with Indiana Jones and Nazi-punching. It makes me sad that they have a bad reputation. I wear mine when it's raining because I find umbrellas annoying, and there aren't many other options for wide-brimmed men's hats (I've toyed with the idea of getting a tricorn hat, but that would just be silly).

Weirdly, the last time I wore mine (Tuesday) I actually did run into someone wearing a Nazi uniform. Freaking bizarro world here.

It's kinda dumb to use a car that's traceable back to you if you're going to make a habit of robbing banks. Cop cars read license plates and there are traffic cams and red light cams, plus who knows what else. At the very least steal some license plates to use on your car.

Also, starting a sentence  with "in this day and age"  should be a flogging at least.  That is cliche, useless, and nails on chalkboard language.  Kill it.

That actually made my morning. I live in Mount Prospect; that's the car the village keeps to try and be cool.

The funny thing is the age of that picture - most of those buildings are gone now. It's like looking back in time. So thanks for that.

420Gabriel: The glasses and the hat were good enough that they couldn't ID him. The suit was probably out of character for him too, so people wouldn't suspect him.
Not too many details in the article, but I would be interested in knowing more about how they figured out it was his car.

Suit is obviously out of character for him. People who frequently wear suits own ones that fit correctly.

I can't wear a fedora with all the beta male, MRA bullshiat surrounding it. And I will never wear a trilby.

In fact, I have a YouTube video planned explaining how to wear a trilby. The video consists of me punching a hole through it and throwing it in the trash.

I only wear a bowler hat these days.

It helps that I don't give much of a crap about fashion or what's in style. I guess I could just wear a cowboy hat, but I'm not much of a fan of them due to overexposure (I've lived in Arizona my whole life). In general though I just don't think that we should let a bunch of shiatty people ruin a perfectly good style of hat just because they like them too.

I'll bet it was from reviewing camera footage.  All they'd need nowadays is for witnesses to tell them which direction he walked and then they could ask to see camera footage from businesses around there.

Was it a genuine, Hugh Boss(tm) tailored Nazi uniform, or was it some cheap imitation?  Because that's how you tell the real Nazis from the poseurs.

This was always my worst fear when I was a bank teller, getting robbed. They always drilled into us just to cooperate with anyone attempting to do so, but it would have been tough. Thankfully, no one ever robbed my branch while I worked there, but during my time, there was an armed takeover of another branch. Scary stuff.
