(Popular Science)   China's navy just fired dozens of missiles near North Korea. They're also fortifying the Sino-Korean border with nuclear-biological-chemical protected bunkers. Nothing to worry about though. It's just standard drills   ( popsci.com) divider line

Anti-ship missiles and anti-submarine drills aren't sending a message to the Norks.  That message is for the US Navy.

Un Fortunately, Un has his secret dear leader bunker right near the border with China, probably seemed like a good idea at the time when his dad built it in case they had to escape over the border to China.

The Chinese understand that the US buys way* more Chinese goods than North Korea does. Hopefully that's a stronger incentive to them than some east-vs-west ideology.

Depending on how far the response went, likely not.
If Trump were to "shoot first", they most certainly will.
And no - it won't be a "cakewalk".

According to this article they will not support a NK first strike but will assist if the US strikes them first.

It gets interesting when NK fires a few missiles into the ocean in the general vicinity of Guam (well away from any of the US bases) and the US responds by dropping a load of bombs on them. Who does China consider to have attacked first in that scenario?

Not to worry. With a godlike warrior like Emperor Trump leading us into battle, we will win a victory unlike any victory ever won before in the entire history of the world, and all our boys will come home without a scratch, and we'll have a big parade.

China already said that they would only step in if we started it..  if NK starts it, they will stand down..   pretty sure that China knows Trump is just pulling Un's chain..  Un is in a lose/ lose situation : the only thing he can do besides running his mouth is to test more rockets or attack the sea again.. if he launches, he could be toast depending where it went and what was on it..  if he does nothing, he loses face with his people, who might get the notion that he is not all that and a bag of chips.. can't stay in power like that..  we do have to watch him, as he is not stupid and undoubtedly has shenanigans lined up in reserve..

China doesn't want to blow 3 decades of incredible economic growth that led them to become a global economic superpower on some small backwards country whose present leader has given them the finger so many times during his relatively short reign.  Mao died a long time ago and this isn't the cold war.  And yet Farkers (and I suppose a lot of Americans in general) underestimate Chinese penchant for practical policy and the so-called long game.  They know at some point they may have to face the US militarily but regardless of them talking big game on occasion, their leadership has hinted many times they know they can't defeat the US at the present time.

So unless the US really forces their hand, they don't want to defend this guy.

Don't they have the world's largest navy? (admittedly, you have to count fishing vessels, but it's something to be aware of)

How to tell you are BFFs:  you fortify your border with nuclear-chemical-and-biological bunkers.

You know, Canada should get some of those to fortify our border with Detroit. Just kidding. If we did that, New York would fortify the highway from Montreal against Quebec drivers.

Yeah - nothing's going to happen. Kim knows he won't get a lot of backup if he starts something, and anyway, he has no intention of doing anything serious. By now, I'm also pretty sure it's been pounded into Donnie's head that he's not to start anything, either.
But if we step on our dick, they Chinese will be ready to protect themselves and what they regard as their waters, and to exploit the situation any way they can.
I just hope the dementia doesn't kick in big time - that is one scary wild card in the mix.

To be honest, China's Xi isn't that much less a dictator than Kim. China is quickly turning into a police state. Soon no more VPN's to the outside. And believe it or not, they are starting to enforce the mandatory installation of government spyware on cell phones and other wireless devices.

I read somewhere that they're still having trouble with the screen doors.  It's only a matter of time before they master that technology and become truly unstoppable though.
