"The Patriots offense got off to a slow start with two three-and-outs sandwiched around a field goal, but Garoppolo played into the third quarter and things picked up as the game went along he began playing against less-skilled players."

Holy crap he may be a moron as well. So is any Pats coach that doesn't figure this out in less than 2 seconds. The quality of players on the Pats, even the 2nd and 3rd teams, is probably higher than any other team in the league. It ain't rocket science why he does better against other teams' scrubs and worse against his own.

This is why preseason hype is dumb, everytime I see a big play by a promising young potential starter in the preseason I also look at the players around them and see a bunch of 3rd stringers missing blocks, whiffing tackles or blowing coverage and think "yep, that'd be intercepted in the regular season". It's why i'm glad the Titans didn't draft Mike Williams because he was a "go up and get it" guy in college... those kinds of guys aren't usually successful in the NFL.

Same thing the opposite way. People see 2nd teamers struggle in the preseason and they figure those players are bad, and anybody who thinks they could start are idiots.

Paxton Lynch didn't play well last night? He's terrible and anybody who says otherwise is an idiot.

/Lynch did play terrible last night, though.

Yep, a running back who won't make the cut runs for 75 yards and nobody sees all the poor positioning and tackling at the line and only see the corner who has to chase him down the field or whatever.

Speaking of running backs, did you see where Leonard Fournette said the NFL is slow and easy and that the SEC made him ready for the next level?

The Pats 2nd and 3rd stringers are no better than anyone else's 2nd and 3rd stringers. What kind of nonsense is this? Is this Bill's Fark account?

/the Patriots have to be under the cap too, this isn't the 70s where one team stockpiles superior talent 3 deep at every position
//he does better in games than practice because he probably gets bored at practice since Brady is taking all the snaps

We'll see how he feels when he's not playing against guys who are going to be working at used car dealerships in a few weeks.

/not surprising he thinks the NFL sucks since he's mostly played against Jacksonville players and Week 1 preseason scrubs

I saw that. Should be interesting to watch him this season.

Garoppolo played into the third quarter
He finished the night 22-of-28 for 235 yards and two touchdowns

In the preseason the our player started out slowly but, as the other team's players got progressively less talented, the our player did very well. I have decided that the runner back got better over the course of the preseason game and because this decision has no merit I will to choose a cause for this randomly.

You couldn't be more wrong. That's what makes the Pats better as the season goes on. Other teams lose a few starters and their second and third stringers can't keep up.

Look at the salary cap. Other teams spend too much on their stars. The Pats save money to pay better backups.

I get what your saying and it's almost feasible. But that should mean they're getting beat when everyone's healthy. I suspect it isn't necessarily that Pats backups are more talented but that the team devotes more time to ensuring the readiness of the 2nd and 3rd stringers. Maybe they also see more game action.

They absolutely spend more money on their key backups than any other team. They get star players to play for less to do so. Occasionally they'll break the bank for one guy, but almost exclusively for a guy that's already playing for them. The couple/few times they spent a lot on a free agent it didn't work out for them.

But you have a point about game action. If you're on the roster, expect to play. Expect to go in on second and long, then sit for the rest of the quarter, then play an entire series, then sit until the end of the game. They're expected to be ready. Starters are expected to play special teams. A lot of teams don't do this.

They have depth that actually can contribute when plugged in, the thing is with depth though is that when you line up nothing but depth man-to-man across the board in vanilla schemes it's not going to look nearly as good as when needed during the regular season because teams are evaluating each individual player right now.
