If he wanted to do some real damage, he should get himself elected to the Senate again, or even the House.
Trump would veto any law Obama votes for, which could lead to some interesting tolling on Republican-backed legislation.

It's Hillary's turn.

If anything, Obama should take center-stage as the vocal opposition to Trump and anyone who supports him.

You don't think people will vote for those Obama backs?  Really?

Obama needs to go back to roots and focus on helping people.  Drawing attention to social issues facing the poor and disenfranchised.  I'd like to see him tour the red states (carefully).  He should never utter Trump's name or criticise him.  There's a ton of people doing that.  Obama's a rock star and he can do a shiat-tonne by shining the light on the suffering of the poor and middle-class.

No.  Trump got elected by blaming the Mexicans for all their problems and promising to fix everything without explaining how.

Still, every once in a while Obama should troll Trump by hinting at he might run against Trump in 2020, just to get a rise out of ye olde orange shiatgibbon.

I don't know.  Trump will be more pissed that Obama never mentions him - ever.  I always refer to Trump in terms of what is absent.  This country "needs leadership", "it needs effective government that answers to the people", "it needs respected people that understand what the average American is facing".  Always in terms of what is absent/lacking - never directly mentioning Trump.

Because some are still sore that Obama beat Hillary for the nomination in 2008; not to mention Obama did things in spite of their own fumblings.

It would be preferable to start shining the spotlight on some new faces, especially folks who may actually run for office in the future.

Trump desperately needs a boogey man, and hillary's email's are even getting past the Fox News viewers sell-by date.   I can understand the hesitation, but Obama knows what to expect and I think he would handle it fine.

Remember when you could type "I think the president will handle it just fine", and believe it?  I just did. :(

He's got the news on all the time and if he sees Obama's face he will yell at Kelly, "Turn that up Reince" and then he will be waiting for Obama to mention his name and when he doesn't his micro-boner will fade and he will demand 3 scoops of ice cream.

Please, yes please do insert yourself in the 2018 election process former president, blind as you are to the fact that it was your policies that helped Hillary lose, not to mention . . .

"Under Obama, Democrats have lost 13 Senate seats and 69 House seats in Congress, and the results are even more staggering on a local level. Democrats have lost 12 governorships, including Kentucky last week with the election of Matt Bevin, 30 state legislative chambers and more than 900 state legislative seats."

2017-08-11 11:33:28 AM
I imagine the conversation went something like this:

"Who can we promote as the leader of the party?"
"Well, Hillstank went a little overboard with the Bernie-bashing and now he's unusable. Besides, he's still an Independent."
"And, forget about Tom Perez. He's got a Mexican sounding name."
"Tom Per-who?"
"Exactly."
"How about Biden?"
"Dude."
"What?"
"He is not on Hillary's good side."
"What about Hillary?!"
"She's still not polling well. Besides, she's done jack and shiat since she emerged from the forest like some sort of bullshiat Snow White. She's done. Nobody wants her, everybody hates her..."
"Guess we'll all eat worms? What about..."
"Hrm?"
"No. It's too ridiculous."
"Say it!"
"What about Obama. He's made of the same Teflon material Bill was. Despite his doubling down on immigrant exportation, he's seen as Mexican friendly. Despite his drone bombing the living crap out of other brown people, he's not seen as a warmonger. Despite his creating the shiatshow that was the TPP, he's not seen as a corporate sellout. Despite passing a healthcare bill that benefitted the health care industry, he's not seen as a Republican."
"Hey! Let's try him out. Maybe he'll come back from vacation early?"
"It's the only chance we've got."
