So, one candidate devoted themselves to a lifetime of public service in exchange for public ridicule, kept their first and only marriage together, and consulted Scripture daily.

The other spent their life in the pursuit of money, has never asked God for forgiveness, is divorced multiple times, and hasn't even read the Bible.

And who did the religious folks end up voting for? Not the one who walked the walk, but the one who couldn't even talk the talk. That's so aggravating.

I still think Hillary Clinton would be a better president than Donald Trump, and I'm glad to say that that's how I voted when it might have counted.

Sadly, slightly too many of my fellow Michiganders voted differently. I hope those voters are paying attention to how things have turned out.

I voted for Sanders in the primary in Michigan, and he won. I voted for Clinton in the general in Michigan and she lost.

Do I regret either vote? Nope.

No, she would have been a sh*t President. Yes, she is competent. Yes, I preferred her over Dickface, because that was my choice.

She would have been a complete sh*t President and I'd have hated every day she was in office.

But, she was not Donnie. That is not what we need. We need better.

That's because the loudest "religious" folks aren't interested in religion except as a way to justify a repugnant worldview.

doglover: aaronx: A wise voter votes for the best candidate on offer

Because they were both better at the politics of their respective parties than the opposition.

/Bernie would have lost the popular vote to Trump. He's even older than Trump, comes off as a 'crazy grandpa', and as soon as he actually posed a threat, the Noise Machine would've torn him to shreds. You think a guy whose been involved in politics at various levels for so long doesn't have skeletons in his closet that the GOP could spin? Never mind that he's also Jewish (not a problem in regards to doing the job, of course, but a lot of antisemitism is still out there, and at LEAST as virulent as misogyny), and a 'socialist'.

I loved the ideas put forth by Bernie. But I also knew that, particularly once he lost the primary, the most realistic way to actually work towards those ideas would be to vote for Hillary and every other Democrat on the ticket. Because as long as the GOP has any shred of power, Bernie's ideals are dead in the water.

How can you be part of a Dynasty that lasts only one generation? We just call those Power Couples. If anything HRC's problem was waiting too long to run, maybe if she had gone for it in 2004 she could have won, but who knows now.

Anyway, not to re-hash the fight yet again, but Bernie benefited from being in the right place at the right time, as the lone not-Clinton in the race with any kind of verve behind him, so he got a part of the not-Clinton vote that went to Obama in 2008. If anyone else had a ounce of charisma (like O'Malley), we'd be talking about... something else probably, hard to say. Counterfactuals are a biatch, no?

It's kind of useless to ponder at this point, but I wonder if she would have run with Sanders as her running mate.

But Bernie's problem is purely a matter of political timing. He jumped into the race way too late after it was apparent that no one on the left-end of the polity was going to be a viable challenger to Clinton. But that was in 2015; if he had started in 2013 he would have been able to get his snowball rolling much earlier and could have pulled an Obama, also would have had some time to get to parity in communities HRC ended up wiping him out in.

You can't be a Democratic Nominee if you can't reach parity with brown Voters in the South and West.

Clinton had name recognition and a (comparatively) friendly media pushing the narrative of her inevitable victory.

Trump won because the media was following him like a circus act, and the simple minded love the draw of a carnival barker.

Checks out.

Although ceding an election with 2.8 million more votes to your name to the likes of Donald Trump...? Might wanna put an asterisk up there next to qualified.

But she's good preacher material. She can open a mega church and do snake handling and faith healing for all I care. Just as long as she don't run for president again.
