Calm down. This is a governor position. It's purely state matters and setting policy. Hell, Bush Jr couldn't screw up Texas. You basically have to actively be evil to make a mess of things. People switch careers all the time.

Basically, if you are a news junky fairly well rooted in reality, you'll make an ok governor.

That would be Jay Nixon, now the former governor of Missouri.  So-so governor, but he vetoed a lot of derp.
