A quarter of Americans probably still think Nixon was honest.

Which goes to prove a quarter of Americans can't count to potato

2017-08-08 12:21:05 AM
And a dozen or so of them are in the politics tab

Here's the thing and most of you probably know this:

no matter what happens, even if it's proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Trump was involved in some shady illegal shenanigans during the election, he will never lose that 20-30% of supporters. They've bought in, they're emotionally invested and will never admit they shiat the bed last November.

Honesty can only be judged on the speaker's intentions.

If he believes he's speaking the truth, then he's honest.

Maybe 25% of Americans have the humility to accept they can't read the hearts of others.

That is the number who approved of him as President at the time of his resignation.

A majority believe a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

Because what the American public does not know is what makes them the American public.

I think that statistic is way too low, to be honest.

Americans don't have a monopoly on stupidity but, we sure are exceeding the global averages.
looking at the number of people that believe in angels, Bigfoot, evolution being a hoax, noah's ark, etc... should we be surprised?

If there is a uniquely American element, it is the inability to see corruption in thier own leaders even with a "free"  press. Everyone i know who was raised outside of the US sees the corruption in politics as more or less universal, but Americans-for the most part-are blind to it in this country.  But those exit polls in Ukraine.....

I'm going to have to wait and see what he has to say about the Taylor Swift Grope Trial before I can make any judgement, and not, NOT because I am in any way thinking about grabbing anything in the Taylor Swift crotchal area. Because thinking about the two things together - Donald Trump's penchant for pussy grabbing, and the COINCIDENTAL need to focus on the ass and possibly ass-adjacent areas of Taylor Swift's nether regions, well, to imply that's appropriate, well, that's simply unfounded.

I'm curious what it will take for my family to dump their support of him. So far so good I guess.
Then again, they HATE Hillary so they're probably in it for the long run.

I think you're being generous.  Watch the E! channel for an hour or two, then watch Fox News for another 2 hours.

There, I fixed your optimistic view of America.

Personally, I recommend cat videos. If you are going to lose faith in humanity, at least remind yourself there is some real good in the world.

Even here.  The trump folks / "Drew's Friends", they don't even oughtright defend trump any more.  They won't, they can't.  It's all indirect support.  "That's not colluding", "Collusion isn't a crime", "Nothingburger". et cetera.   You won't catch them saying "I like the job Trump is doing" or "This shows how successful he is as a businessman / deal broker" or some such.  Because they know they'll drown in a delude of derision, and they have nothing to back up their assertions with.  It's painfully obvious they're in some seriously trying times right now.

its interesting watching the attitudes shift.  trump is losing the rural voters, and actually so are the GOP in a more general sense.  not even gerrymandering can protect the GOP in 2018, that's how bad this is getting.  once Mueller's report hits, there will be very little support for trump.  his own party will be ready to boot him out of power.

Wasn't Nixon above 50 percent popularity/approval within his own party until around the last 2 months of his term? Like even when it was obvious he was dirty, his in-party approval ratings were good. Things only really shifted when it moved to near-lock territory that he was going down. Nixon even left office with like a 20-25 percent approval

I don't think it's that they will never admit it, because even if they admit it, they are so invested, they have the view 'the good' overrides 'the bad'.

Note: I'm not saying he did anything good and they have a point (so relax.....breathe. That's a point others more knowledgeable than I can discuss). I'm saying that 20-30% will simply 'see' the good points and that is why they support him.

Resident Muslim: Weaver95: the wheels are coming off the trump train.

depends on when you start counting I guess.  trump's down something like 25-ish odd points from January.  I think his decline is accelerating tho, esp lately.  trump's getting more and more incoherent and less focused on his job.  his twitter rants aren't helping, and the backlash today from his draft dodger comments was f*cking brutal.  I've *never* seen all of twitter become so vicious before.

Trump's losing support.  he's got his trumper true believer base, and the mercenaries and that's it.  the GOP leadership is bailing on him, and even fox news isn't pulling as hard for him as they did last year.  Between trump's disintegrating emotional and mental state and Mueller's impending report I think the GOP will be very happy to impeach trump, who they will say was never really a 'true' republican.

I think they are all at "Hillary would have been worse!" mode for the most part.  Hell, Trump is parroting it almost daily.

I don't know why people are so fixated on his dropping approval rating.  The election's over.  He "won".  His rating could drop to 0% and it won't matter until his term is over.  Being unpopular isn't an impeachable offense.
