Look, I don't like Alan Dershowitz that much, but here, he's thinking like a defense attorney and I see nothing wrong with that.

The line between success and failure often depends on the venue you're in.

"I liked him as a person," recalled Dershowitz, who said his view of Trump is that the president "is not a bigot."

Yea, I heartily disagree with you, Mr. Dershowitz.

Well, to be fair, Dershowitz is a bigot, so be probably thinks Trump is just a regular guy like him

If Dershowitz is concerned about the browns being critical of Trump, I suppose he's got a good point there. I'm all for it.

This pinhead will deem anything short of a jury box full of #MAGA hats to be unfairly biased.

Dershowitz invented the 'blame the investigation' defense to help a murderer escape justice. He interprets perceptions to overlook criminality. Yes, a good criminal defense attorney. Why does 45 need a good criminal defense attorney to justify his actions?

Does it not say in the Bible that ye shall be judged by a jury of thy peers?

Seems to me that white billionaires are the only people capable of judging Mr. Trump.  Or deserving.

Is he suggesting minorities might not be sympathetic to someone that is trying to keep them from fully participating in society?

Shocker.

I wonder if he would have a problem with Jewish participation in the Nuremberg trials?

Yay, Godwin

Maybe if Trump wasn't such a raging racist asshat it wouldn't be a problem. This is of his own making. And now he knows how a black man feels in front of a jury full of Trumpers.  Welcome to the reality that your white privilege has limitations asshole.

Someone should take out a full page ad similar to the one he bought concerning those black kids that were acquitted. But accuse him like he did them.

I don't know you from a leaf in the street, Mr. Dersh, but this:

his view of Trump is that the president "is not a bigot."

shall not stand.  He is not only a bigot, but a convicted bigot. Convicted on the basis of denying rentals to tenants not based on the content of their character, but of the color of their skin.  This is our President.

I think the news just came out yesterday that in addition to the Grand jury in eastern district if Virginia focused on flynn, there is a newly empaneled grand jury in DC focused on something else. Presumably things that happened after the president took office, because the grand jury is in DC because that's where the crimes occurred, not because that's where "the blacks" are.

2017-08-05 04:39:59 PM
Why didn't he just be blunt about it and say "You can't trust a jury full of ni-*bong*s to give a rich white boy a fair shake! This is unfair to poor Mr. Trump who is the most innocent man in history!"

If this were a trial jury it would make sense.  As it's an investigative grand jury, it's a smoke screen.  In effect, rather than trial by public opinion it becomes let everyone go regardless of the facts.

Yes. Grand juries can only act where they have jurisdiction. The jurors are drawn randomly from the pool of potential jurors.

2017-08-05 04:58:00 PM
Dershowitz might have simply argued that Donald Trump might be unable to get a fair trial anywhere in the United States, even in northern Virginia.

These days the ideal juror does not know and has not heard of the accused, and so will not go into the trial with his own opinion of the accused, which could color his judgement of whether or not the accused is guilty.

Everybody has heard of Donald Trump. And everybody has heard of the president of the United States. Given that, leaving his judgement to a normal jury is not a realistic option, leaving impeachment by Congress as the only way for President Trump to get a fair trial for any high crimes and misdemeanours he may be accused of.

The real issue is that the GOP-controlled House, for better or worse, is not ready to indict him on the grounds of what is publicly known. But that's a whole other issue.

2017-08-05 04:58:02 PM
This is one of those important life lessons.  Don't be a dick to people you don't know: they might be on your jury one day.

Juries are so unfair to rich old white guys on trial for white collar crimes.
