On the bright side, you can get Fantastic deals right now if you want anything firearm related.

Yeah, it's not as bad for them as headline makes it out to be:

Last month sales of firearms was the third highest since they've been keeping track.  Ruger et al. aren't hurting by any means.  It just looks that way when you compare them to highest peak *EVAR*!

2017-08-04 03:14:30 PM
Third highest for that month, I should say.

In fact, 2017 is turning out to be a very good year for the firearms industry:

It's not a perfect guide, as the note at the bottom indicates, but it's a pretty good indicator because 99.something% of NICS checks are sales of one or more guns, or are people getting a carry permit.

So lets see how they stack up:

January 2017:  Third highest January
February 2017:  3rd highest February
March 2017:  2nd highest March
April 2017: 2nd highest April.
May 2017:  Highest May *EVAR*
June 2017:  2nd highest June
July 2017:  2nd highest July.

In fact, this year so far, there have been more NICS checks than the total in any year prior to 2010.

But hey, gun owners are dying out, right?

dittybopper: But hey, gun owners are dying out, right?

Man you really had this response set ready to go on this headline that you totally didn't submit.  Also: nobody said that last part except you.

Reality: gun owners haven't been multiplying in number, they've just been multiplying in inventory.  Now that the big, bad Barack and mean ol' Hillary aren't around to scare the toughest people in the land, it isn't as easy to sell tons of ARs.  So, of course as you pointed out, the totally-rational non-panic-based stockpiling of last year has evaporated.

But guns are still cool and there's still a little room in house for another cabinet, so they'll keep selling especially since the NRA is gone batsh*t with their "coming insurrection" ad campaign.

the best part is, a not so insignificant group of buyers from November on are likely progressive in nature.

Phrasing, subby.

The results were reported on Wednesday afternoon.

You had me wondering why gun sales on Wednesday afternoon were so important.

I know new comics come in every Wednesday. Perhaps the new guns come in that day too?

Buy guns? Heh heh heh.

2017-08-04 04:04:46 PM
So why DO people keep buying guns? It's not like the old guns expire or anything. Do they lose them? Give them away? Sell them? Just want the latest fashionable model? Asking as a Canadian who wasn't raised as a gun nut.

2017-08-04 04:06:00 PM
I'm sure Ruger recalling every single one of its newest model .22 pistol made from last fall until June and freezing sales until they could get the unshipped inventory fixed before it left the warehouse had nothing to do with 2nd quarter losses.

2017-08-04 04:06:18 PM
As a firearms consumer, this is something of a golden age. Ruger AR15's can be had as low as $450. 7.62x39 is back down to sub $0.2/round now in some places. Palmetto State Armory is throwing in 10 thirty round gen2 PMAGs for free on seemingly every order and new production european AK mags can once again be had for sub $10. Everything is cheap, cheap, cheap.

Once you get technical, you become a collector.

Guns, pens, cookware, mechanical keyboards...all of it eventually turns into the same hobby with different adjectives.

People buy things because accrual of objects makes them look more attractive to the opposite sex, much like the bower bird and his collection strategically placed in front of his rutting bower.

After all, why do you think guns are blued?

Libs, having finished elementary school, can count the number of hands they possess, and rarely acquire four or five times the number of guns they can shoot at once. Black people, it appears, actually are buying guns - but they are not a huge population sector.

What better way to defend your home than with 25 ARs? I mean, you wouldn't want to take time out to change magazines, would you?

CSB:  A friend of a friend (who owns a gun store in a small town about 30 minutes from me) was complaining back in February about the lack of sales since Clusterf*ck (my name, not his) was elected.  Like an idiot, he hadn't been squirreling away his profits for the last eight years like a good businessman, he had been sinking them into his two trucks, more personal guns, and a pretty sweet fishing boat.  He was worried he would have to close his store if sales didn't pick up.

I asked him who he voted for and of course it was Trump.  I didn't want to be a total dick but I laughed and told him he voted for the wrong person and that I had tried to do my part by voting for Hillary three times.  My friend shot me a nasty look and told his buddy we needed to be heading out and pushed me out the door.

It's hard to feel bad for someone stupid enough to shoot themselves in the foot and complain how much it hurts.

2017-08-04 04:23:42 PM
NRA can't seem to realize they need democrats in power, to instill fear in pants-shiatting members that their guns will be taken away. Elect republicans, no need to buy guns. It's not like there's any actual danger of them being outlawed in either case.

Guns dont expire, but they become expensive and hard to find and find parts for. Fashion and trends and collectors fancy applies just as much to firearms as to anything else, as does technological advancement. Some people like having lots of guns as collections of interest or for different uses, or just have too much money and nothing else to spend it on, or a collection of all of these things.

Man this NWO is really taking its grabbing all my guns.  I feel kind of foolish buying myself these camo clothes and running around the woods with my fellow republicans discussing the inevitable federal gun seizure.  I mean, come on Obama, during your last year you were supposed declare you allegiance to Iran and that you were the Caliph.  Now you are just slacking in Hawaii and partying.  I had hopes (secretly) that Hillary would win so I could go on talking about the NWO but now Trump is president and my plans for resistance seem silly and a waste of money and time.

They are trying to lull you into a false sense of security. By not taking your guns, they fool you into believing that they are not going to take away your guns.

It is a plot very similar to the insidious scheme of the homosexual agenda to refrain from destroying traditional families in an effort to make those of us who warned you of the destruction of the traditional family look really stupid.

Ten freebie magazines with every order?  I've not heard that radio spot yet.  My how the market has changed.

I just hope that people who stockpiled ARs to sell high did so before November.  But that's commodities trading for you.

Last new Ruger I bought was maybe 2-3 years ago.  Included with the gun were some NRA pamphlets that also had Ruger's logo on them warning that I needed to join and give money to the NRA or else Obama was going to take the gun I just bought.
