Is that 33 Republican governors?

Eh, Worst Virginia* is still like 60% pro-Trump, regardless of how terrible and stupid and worthless it all is, can't exactly fault him for aligning himself with the will of the people.

*Not actually so named for the Trump idiocy.  Finding someone who can count to 3 and is willing to go driving up and down mountain roads to inspect some worthless mountaintop shiathole for less than twice base contract cost is more my issue with them.  "Oh, we're so poor.  Oh, we need work.  Oh...that sounds like effort, nah."

My late father was an acquaintance of Justice's. From the stories I've heard, his doing something this weasly isn't surprising.

It amazes me how many unbelievably stupid people are billionaires.  If morons can become billionaires so easily, then why is it so farking difficult for smart people?

I gotta get me some friggin coal, or oil, or something.  This not being a billionaire is really pissing me off.

2017-08-03 04:22:11 PM
Why would he ... ?

Mr. Justice, a billionaire coal and real estate magnate

Oh, never mind. As long as you've got a moronically pro-coal administration, might as well join the grift-train.

Say, isn't prez speaking in WV tonight? What an amazing coincidence.

According to the news story this guy has registered as a democrat, republican, and independent in the past. Sounds like he flip-flops often, but as I said in another thread, Trump is going to chalk this up as a "win" and tout that his dealmaking got the guy to come back to the GOP, or something.

And as others have said, usually rats don't jump onto a sinking ship.

Because smart people also have morals, empathy, a sense of ethics, and maybe even some historic knowledge and curiousity. Most of the smartest people I know are also the ones busy giving the shirts off their backs to other less fortunate folks, and doing things like volunteering locally.

Those things generally cock up a run to billionaire status

When an italicized word is followed by plain text, Fark sometimes drops the intervening space.  It doesn't always happen to me, but it's always occurred when posting on the mobile site.

It seems like when politicians switch parties, they or the party they're switching to should at minimum have to reimburse the original party for all that was spent getting the flip-flopper elected.

I don't get doing this as I would never trust any politician ever again who did this. I guess if you're one of the 'by any means' conservatives, you'd be okay with this.

You should have gone with Sideshow Bob's "Rule you like a king" speech from Sideshow Bob Roberts. Frinkiac makes it super easy these days to meme it up.

Judging from the description of the man in question, this is about as surprising as stepping on a giant slug causing your foot to slip from out under you.

He is a billionaire.
A West Virginian billionaire.
A coal billionaire.
A real estate billionaire.
A Conservative Democrat billionaire
A billionaire who has made sizeable contributions to conservative candidates of multiple parties.

In other words, he is an old landed Whig with extraction industry money turning Tory in ruthless pursuit of more power, more money, and more reactionary politics at the expense of everybody and everything that stands in the way of his personal profit and expediency.

Ironic that his name is Justice.

At least ninety percent of life is dumb luck. It's not all dumb luck as you can make your position in life much better through hard work or wreck everything through bad decisions but luck is the most significant factor.

To be fair, I knew a few people who couldn't afford to live in the DC Metro area so they chose to commute from WVa to save on housing costs,  The Charles Town / Harpers Ferry area is full of that demographic.

"Mr. Justice, though, is said to have friendly relationships with some members of Mr. Trump's family. And before entering politics he gave money to officeholders in both parties while variously registering as a Republican, Democrat and independent."

So...no moral convictions whatsoever. Got it.

Rich Conservatives do not share the values they espouse.  The philosophy they indoctrinate their thralls with via Right Wing Radio and Fox News is not the philosophy they hold for themselves--Conservatism as it is sold today is meant to captivate, weaken, and confuse.  It is a class warfare inducing poison deliberately concocted in think tanks to prevent the proles and pleebs from uniting and taking a bite out of what they consider to be the Rich Man's pie--The 90+% of the world owned by them.

They'd kill you and yours to avoid sharing even a single percent of their largess with the world.  And while some of them are decent enough not to have sex with children, make no mistake, they would not intervene to stop a peer from having sex with your 12 year old daughter.  This is why whoremongers that deal in underage female flesh like Donald J. Trump and Jeffery Epstein are allowed to flourish virtually unimpeded.

So when you see a billionaire saying stupid things, bear in mind that he doesn't actually believe them, but rather he wants you to believe them--you are a mark, not a peer.

Interesting you would have this viewpoint. If anything promotes class warfare it's progressivism. Class vs. class, race vs. race, rich vs. poor; that's the mother's milk of the left.

Conservatism promotes self-reliance and providing opportunity for all to advance themselves. Sorry it hasn't worked out for you.
