You can't win an argument unless you yell, scream over the other person, and throw insults like a 6 year old. That's a fact. YOU DICKS!!!!

Trump: "That goddamn Acosta's at it again? Fine, here's the script for tomorrow..."

Huckleberry Flanders: "Listen Jim, or should I say ABILIO. It's hypocritical of you to sit here and question our immigration platform when you're clearly trying to cover up your OWN heritage. Why don't you grab your old man and hop a boat back to that Mexican speaking Commie land WHERE YOU CAME FROM."

They will say "WE WON" regardless of what reality has to say.  But in this case she probably really believes that.

But Miller's responses were pathetic.  Alt-Right jingoism littered with ad ad hominems.  All hollow and meaningless, and no defense of this asinine policy at all.

If you believe it, defend it well and defend it passionately.  Otherwise you're just being an asshole and wasting everyone's time.

Miller knows it's racist.  But he doesn't want you nattering on about it to him and making him feel bad for being a severely damaged, horrible person.  So he'll shout and bully you into silence.

2017-08-03 10:57:41 AM
I'm shocked, SHOCKED, to find that Mr. Miller comes off as a total tool.

Well, not really - he totally reminds me of some of the Young Republican types I knew in college, who always seem confused when their smarmy, clever, arguments that revolved around you accepting a ton of other bad arguments (with a double helping of letter of the law over intent) didn't really sway anyone with half a clue.

Probably why they now focus mostly on the clueless.

She lies for a living. Why would she acknowledge reality in this case?

We used to send the angry young nerd virgins on crusades so the Muslims could do us a solid and kill them.

Why he has not been sent to Afghanistan to lead a platoon that accidentally forgets to follow him into Taliban gunfire, I have no idea.  But if there is a God...

Oh, they are *both* white supremacists

Miller is a known white supremacist.

She's not wrong.  The reporter was put in his place.

That place being where you stand when you want to kick ass and take names.  It's an important place to be when you need to take someone's ass from them so you can hand it back.  Glad he was there intentionally.

I'm a certified Trump hater and hater of anything and anyone related to Trump. But Miller should have left the podium, walked over to Acosta, and biatch slapped him. Acosta was way out of line. He's supposed to be reporting and asking tough questions - not acting like a 15 year old using voice chat in a video game. In my view, he made Miller look good and I hate that POS.

Acosta was asking a valid question, not getting an answer, and pressing for one. It's called journalism.

I still don't know what "cosmopolitan bias" is supposed to mean.

What's the alternative anyway, an "untraveled bias"?  A "provincial bias"?  A "noncomprehensive bias"?

"I think America is much smarter than the media gives them credit for,

I think it's quite clear that the opposite is true

and I think that is certainly working toward our advantage,"

That, i agree with.

One of my biggest complaints about our free market news system is that reporters have to pretend that their viewers/listeners/readers are just great. The customer's always right and all that smiling American service industry attitude. It prevents them from telling the big, looming, unspoken truth that a lot of their consumers are maladjusted, spoiled, ignorant assholes who bear the lion's share of responsibility for everything that's broken.

Acosta is a grandstanding idiot.  The poem has nothing to do with statue, and certainly nothing to do with U.S. immigration policy. Only people as ignorant as Acosta would think Acosta made any sense. He made a fool of himself.

See I hate this drawing because not everything is just a matter of perspective-CONTEXT IS ALSO NEEDED.
Let's look to the left and the right of the number-is there any number that CAN'T be reversed nearby?

.. For instance.

A
6
B

Person A sees a 9, person B sees a six. Sure, you can argue "That's all just perspective!"

.. but if the setup looks like this...
    A
27643
    B

Person B's 'perspective' is probably the 'correct' one (As close to 'objectively correct' as one can get.)

The guy kept saying "the statue of liberty law of the land."

I have no clue what that means.

Right wing twitter loved Miller's performance.  They raved about this was the Trump admin finally taking the gloves off and standing up to the partisan MSM.

It's goddam terrifying.

2017-08-03 01:16:06 PM
Bbut, Stephen Miller had so many gold-plated rejoinders!  Almost as if he knew people were going to point out that traditionally America is the land of hope for immigrants coming to make a better world and a better life for their families.

I mean he's right, that plaque was added to the Statue of Liberty later, and I mean the Statue of Liberty itself wasn't there when Columbus got to the new world so I mean nothing means anything now will you just let Stephen rub his balls on your wife's forehead already?

Anyway those who do not know history's mistakes are doomed to swing high and hard at Nuremberg.  So I'm hoping he knows enough not to try and get too final with his solutions.

2017-08-03 01:16:48 PM

skyotter: I still don't know what "cosmopolitan bias" is supposed to mean.

I would wager it means: "Oh you pesky, educated liberals, with your Latte's and Public Transportation, you can't feel the hate for Latinos like I do because you know they work hard to bring organic food to your table, so I am going to other you as 'cosmopolitan' so as to differentiate your side as stupid in contrast to me and my racist, salt of the earth real white American man views."

Miller's real problem is that he never got his ass handed to him by another white student for his racist nonsense. I saw that actually happen a few times in my California high school, and as a person of color, it was fun to behold.

2017-08-03 01:19:22 PM
The guy was over-the-top.  You could tell that a question along those lines was prepared for, but he delivered it horribly.

That said, I can understand the frustration.  There is nothing remotely racist about the immigration reform bill. At least not in the bullet points of it that we have all heard of.  If there's something in full bill that I have not considered, I'd appreciate knowing about it.

His argument about the poem ("that was added later") was as bad as the argument of about "under God" ("that was added later") in the PoA.

2017-08-03 01:19:29 PM

nijika: I mean he's right, that plaque was added to the Statue of Liberty later

"Under God" was added to the Pledge of allegiance later.

Perhaps Mr. Miller should bring that up.
