My proposal:
Triple the pay of all police nationwide.
Death penalty for any police corruption, including looking the other way, coverups, false reports, perjury.

So are they going to let out all the people forced into crappy plea deals based on evidence by these cops since they only had an overworked public defender and were told take this or risk most likely a longer sentence?

The cynic in me is worried they'll be left to rot for their sentences since it'll be thought that they must have been guilty if they took the deal.

When will this senseless war against our boys in blue end? The risk their lives for us every day and this is the thanks they get? There was probably a really good reason to plant that evidence. Every think of that?

Nothing to see here, just two bad apples refusing to follow standard procedure who were turned in by the good cops as soon as their crimes were seen.

So, you've fired those officers and are pressing criminal charges?

"One of the officers involved was suspended; the other two were placed on administrative duty"

Oh... so thats "as serious as it gets" in your book huh?

"This is kind of a learning and a trial period, right?" Ms. Mosby said on Friday. "All of the body-worn cameras haven't even been implemented, and I think that we're going to go through growing pains."

The Baltimoron Police officers need to learn that you have to plant the evidence, go back and chat with their fellow evidence adulterers officers for more than 30 seconds, THEN activate the body cam.

But don't worry, that paid vacation will learn them.

In the meantime, for profit prisons have worked it into the contract that if the state doesn't keep them at 97% (or so) capacity, the state has to pay huge fines. Do you *want* the state to have to pay millions of dollars in fines? We *need* people to send to prison. So a few "innocent" people get sent to prison. But you got roads and schools don't you? And in the end, isn't that what counts?

The cynic in me thinks they are all guilty and lots of criminals will be let out because of this, making Baltimore even worse for law abiding citizens than it already is.

Not that they shouldn't be let out, but it just sucks for pretty much everybody that this is happening.

As a kid I respected cops and thought they were heroes that confronted violent criminals and locked up murderers and dealt with nasty dangerous drug dealers.

As an adult, none of that turned out to be the case.

They are the asshole bullies you hated in school.
They harass, beat up, intimidate, defame, and otherwise ruin lives of adults.  Mostly for all the wrong reasons.  As I get older, I respect them less and less.  I suspect there will eventually be uprisings...

2017-08-02 05:14:09 PM
Let me know when in addition to dismissing cases, jurisdictions start dismissing cops.  There are no good cops as long as cops don't arrest their peers for these behaviors and police unions don't assist prosecution of dirty cops.  Even the "good" cops are complicit in these crimes against the population if they know what happened and don't do anything to correct police problems.  I believe that if cops worked within the law, there would be much more respect for them, much more cooperation, and many fewer violent attempts made against police personnel.  When a cop gets shot, law enforcement needs to look inward at their own behaviors as well as outward to arrest the perp.  For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

The problem is the is just going to encourage them to obscure their video and actions better. The cameras need to be on whenever the officer is on the clock or acting in any capacity, even off duty. No camera, no video, no immunity, no pay.

Lack of video evidence becomes prima facie evidence of tampering and charges are dismissed and police officer is personally liable for any damages the victim wishes to pursue. All protections against assets are removed. Their home, cars, retirement account and pensions are able to be attached and seized.

Any crimes the officer committed are mandatory triple sentencing/penalties and no early release or parole and they go in gen pop.

Do that and we might have good honest cops again after a few are horribly crucified publically, bankrupted and die in prison.

FTA: The body cameras used by the Baltimore police retain footage of the 30 seconds before they are activated, so it is possible the officer did not realize the initial scene was being recorded.

This is the problem: there are no heroes. There are just regular people who sometimes do heroic things.

Some people are more prone to it than others. Some start well meaning and get led astray. In every walk of life. Some experiences or jobs lead you to think and act certain ways and some resist better than others.

It's no use thinking all cops are heroes or all cops are villains.

Just try and keep your nose clean. If you have to interface with police be polite and stand up for your rights if you feel it won't put you in more danger.

It's a difficult job we should thank them for while demanding integrity and accountability.
