Yeah, rich people cannot abide paying taxes because they are a form of theft.  Why bother paying taxes when you are too busy trying to rob the country blind?  That just makes more work for you and people below you.

I don't want to offend anyone by making broad political statements but it's possible that when Trump promised to hire "the best people" that he wasn't telling the truth.

I do not blame people for not wanting to pay taxes because it sucks.  At the same time, I recognize that everybody needs to put in some money to keep the government running.

What I can't comprehend is how people go into public service, knowing they're going to have the spotlight on their finances and don't make sure they clean everything up beforehand.

The article doesn't say it's different. In fact it directly addresses that this problem existed in past adminstrations as well.

Now, we all know how upset you get when the Trump Administration is criticized, but this wad a balanced article.

Just garnish their wages, how hard is that to do when they are a Federal employee? Anyone not on an agreed payment plan that is.
But one thing to consider... These people are making low figures from salary alone, probably more from investments, spouses, etc. That's plenty of money to live on, they aren't struggling to pay the water bill and car loan, yet they owe $50,000+? So, either they are sheit at money management (spending more than they make), or they are playing games with the system to maximize returns. Either way, they are people who don't pay their bills, much less federal taxes, and people want them in a position of power? The deficit becomes clearer!

Meh, I may be biased but due to some personal circumstances I don't want to get into I owe back taxes. I am on a plan and paying the penalties and interest blah, blah, blah.

Not everyone who owes back taxes is a bad person or even hates paying taxes, life happens differently to everyone so I don't think that is a reason to declare someone a bad person.

Now if a person tries to illegally avoid paying their taxes, that's a different matter but it doesn't sound like that is likely the case with these individuals because the IRS isn't so nice with people in that category.

All that you have said is true.  And it is an important thing to keep in mind -- that not all back taxes are evidence of sin.  A necessary grain of salt.  But in these times, with this administration, it's that last bolded part: That's what we assume is going on, and when you are working for the administration of the highest office in the land I don't feel like that's a bad assumption.

I was just reading another discussion on this topic on another forum -- Trump may have had contractual obligations to provide tax returns to business partners and creditors. One lawyer over there believes this is "almost certainly" true.

Robert Mueller's investigation has team members tasked to investigate financial shiat who of course could use things found in his tax returns. So these third parties would then be obliged to release these tax returns to the investigation when they're subpoenaed. And, some subpoenas, especially before grand juries, are secret, so any agreements that may exist between the third parties and Trump to notify Trump of a subpoena would be precluded.

So we just might see more of Trump's taxes before the circus leaves town.

/much thanks to the very smart anonymous lawyer guy on the other forum
