It's funny that we live in a politically assinine society that someone would biatch about the size of a campaign sign instead of promoting their own agenda. Not that it has happened, but if they didn't change their signs, it would.

I was helping a local guy try to get elected in Minneapolis and his opponent called the City and he got a huge fine. For leaving his flyer in somepeople's newspaper slots on their mailboxes. Yeah he lost by a landslide, but seriously, he ran a clean campaign and never once said anything about her or her policies.

/sorry if that's a threadjack.

Only read the headline.

"Republican candidates cutting corners to meet campaign caws.
Literally"

Caws. Hehe.

Well, I'm never flying Southwest, then. Hooray for intrusive flash ads!

2004-05-25 04:57:10 AM
that was a waste of bandwith.

2004-05-25 04:58:30 AM
I'm confused... This was humourous, but it was Republicans. So I must simultaneously like and hate it. Or something. Well, it was still amusing.

2004-05-25 04:59:26 AM
I ain't signin' up for nothin'.

2004-05-25 05:00:36 AM
I'm going to disagree Jolonco. The way I see it, these laws exist for a pretty good reason, to prevent undue burden on citizens going about their normal lives during election season, and it would bother me severely if someone hoping to beocme a part of government openly disregards, or is ignorant of, the laws regarding their campaign.

2004-05-25 05:00:59 AM
Someone want to give us the gist of it, for those of us who refuse to sign up for this...

2004-05-25 05:01:42 AM
Yeah, politics sure is an intelligent and important part of today's society. Don't forget to vote!

/just gonna be sarcastic all day

Help! Police! That sign is 1/8th of an inch too large, according to local campaigning laws! Help! Murder!

2004-05-25 05:05:09 AM
Sometimes I wonder: How do people who nitpick over 1/8th of an inch - people who dare put a ruler to a sign - live? Is it a happy existance? I'm often amazed by the insane stories told to me by friends working in local gov. With apathy so high - any efforts to get out the vote should be prize worthy. I would LOVE 3x6' massive plywood banners on every street corner listing the agenda/party affiliation of the feller running for state senate, sec. of state, etc. Nothing making a poli sci student pissier than to visit the voting booth and be dumbfounded by new unfamilier names!@##$^#^

Makes a guy want to bloody puke.

Odd... First time I opened the link, I was taken straight to the article. Next time, it was a "you must subscribe" dealy.

Basically, the article said that the printing place got the size wrong, didn't realize that the signs had to be EXACTLY what they ordered. Instead of wasting money on a new batch, they cut some corners and made it legal.

2004-05-25 05:15:53 AM
Caw! Caw!

2004-05-25 05:16:12 AM
Armed with scissors and sharp political acumen, Howard and a half-dozen of the candidates' supporters fanned out and cut corners from the cardboard signs - all 250 or so of them. By midnight, about six hours later, their mission was accomplished, and the blue-and-white signs were legal.

Well, even though it's a dumbass law the Republicans are following it. Using scissors. The farking liberals would've hired a team of lawyers to argue the definition of the units of measure, accuracy of the rulers and contraction/expansion of the sign material.

Gotta love their latest scam - breaking all convention by not nominating their candidate at their nominating convention.

"Rules??? What farking rules??? We don't follow no rules - especially the ones we make" say the democrats.

elect these people.

direct, practical action on an issue that can easily be resolved.

I personally think that there are too many who find politics too interesting. Also there are a lot of people that have the vein in their forehead explode when talking politics. I know a person that was so into politics, and doesn't watch anything except for CNN that didn't even realize that a gas station around the corner burnt down.

\Friends don't let friends vote while they're drunk.

You wouldn't catch President Bush running around town fixing this.

Cheney won't let him run with scissors.

2004-05-25 05:48:44 AM
If they had re-ordered the signs, people would complain that they were being wasteful and unfriendly to the environment. But since that angle cannot be taken, they are cheap corner cutters. You just cannot win in politics.

2004-05-25 05:50:14 AM
this should have an ironic tag. republicans are not known to cut spending anymore

pippo, hahahaha

Once again, geometry prevails over whining liberals.

/can't actually think of previous defeat of whining liberals via geometry.

Nah, cbm5 the sort of people who biatch about an extra inch on a campaign sign aren't necessarily liberals, they're CRANKS or CRACKPOTS. These are the same kind of people that collect string and write lots and lots of letters to the editor about how the Martians/Commies are poisoning our drinking water with flouride.

2004-05-25 06:15:33 AM
In other words, whining liberals.

2004-05-25 06:19:04 AM
i love republicans. they taste just like chicken.

/got next to nothin'

2004-05-25 06:20:45 AM
It's the anal-retentive gated community white suburban freak zones that get upset about ordnances and shiat.

Guess they're all whining liberals too.

Actually, anything you think is wrong, must be whining liberals! Going around complaining about murder and torture and freedom! Stinking pinkie commie scum!

Sod subscribing to Philly anything.

Can't stand that pseudo-cheese.

Don't get the 'caws' bit.

2004-05-25 06:31:25 AM
caws = laws

2004-05-25 06:35:43 AM
Cheers, pippo. I'd never have got that in a 1000 years.

2004-05-25 06:41:47 AM
Ooh, a sarcasm detector. That's useful.

/confused

2004-05-25 07:03:51 AM
There was no sarcasm there. It needed too much visualisation for me. I'm more of a punning bastard.

2004-05-25 07:06:05 AM
Wait, pippo, did u just try to equate conservatives with Nazism? Cause your an asshat if you did.

Liberalism is closer to Nazism than conservatism. Nazism is socialist don't forget.

Scissors = Weapons of Sign Reduction

2004-05-25 07:20:05 AM
Ah, Awan me old mucker.

I think you'll find a posted a geometric shape that, it can be said, was used to defeat whining liberals.

If you didn't detect the humour in my post, don't come over all self-righteous and accuse me of breaking Godwin's law.

Alternatively, yes, I honestly believe that $STEREOTYPED_GROUP are exactly the same as Nazis.

2004-05-25 07:23:20 AM
I'm not saying democrats are entirely lazy or stupid, but they would have never been as self sufficient and self motivated to take that kind of initiative.

Second thought...they are lazy and stupid.

2004-05-25 07:31:42 AM
/Nazism is socialist don't forget.

My humour was lost on you I see, Nazi's weren't socialist, they only said they were. But whatever.

2004-05-25 07:36:32 AM
No campaign finance reform, no ban on "soft money" ads (from both sides), but, by gum, that sign of yours better not be one angstrom larger than it's supposed to be!

Major points for style for this candidate's team for finding a solution that didn't involve enough lawyers to sink an aircraft carrier.

2004-05-25 07:41:10 AM
"CAUSE" or "LAWS"?

2004-05-25 07:47:49 AM
Modern Major General-Yeah, maybe the Republicans follow little rules. But big ones, you know, like the GENEVA CONVENTION, they can just ignore those whenever they feel like it.

/Didn't read the article because it asked for registration, so I figured I would turn this into an Iraq/Bush thread

2004-05-25 08:01:28 AM
I can't believe this was reported.

What do you think the word "liberals" means? do you have the first idea, apart from some sort of fuzzy notion about intellectuals, communists and hippies?

Try replacing "liberals" with "jews" and see how stupid you sound spouting off about indistinct groups and the values you've arbitrarily assigned to them.

2004-05-25 08:26:06 AM
In other words, whining liberals.

As if Limbaugh hasn't made a fortune whining.

Take your stereotypes and pack 'em in your ass.

bludstone

I know you are merely attempting to impugn some group or another by juxtaposing them with pictures of violence, which will of course always work unless your intention is so obscure it is only known to yourself, but. .
Please read the FARQ before posting NSFW material.

Looks to me like he's contrasting hippies and soldiers.

Or two dudes could have stacked them and done 5 at a time.

Innovative thinking from republicans... that doesn't involve a new way to kill someone... HA

Wow BLUDSTONE, thanks for those images at work, you moron. Prepare for bannination. Idiot.
