They need to send a letter to Congress saying:
A) More money for us or
B) We will bill Trump for the Mar A Lago excursions or
C) If he doesn't pay or we don't get mo' money, we don't do vacation properties.

i really like and respect the Coast Guard. Give them access to the emergency war supplemental that they use to give the Army sh*t they don't even want or need.

The money is there, shift it around. Treat this Service with the respect it deserves.

You don't sell multi-billion dollar jets to the Coasties. And they don't burn through as much ammo. Thus it won't get fixed as long as Mr. Monopoly's Retarded Nephew is around.

Yeah, that's what is expected and that would make sense, you know a fatality of substantial blows to our system. But I never thought he'd be able to so much damage just by slacking off and playing golf all the farking time.

There should be a separate budget item for Presidential protection so that the Coast Guard, and other agencies, would be reimbursed.

Before that, it was the merchant marine who got proper farked by the government. The USMM had the highest rate of casualties of any service in WW2, and they didn't get proper Veteran benefits.

Well, they also got f*cked being under, I think it was, Dept. of Transportation. They've always been underfunded. They do some of the most amazing stuff and they have some really great people.

Didn't know that about the MM. We have a history of not really being very good to those that deserve it.

If you're ever in the Tampa Bay area this ship, IMO, is a must-visit:

www.americanvictory.org

I've both visited it as a museum and have been fortunate enough to go on a few day cruises on it -- as it is now operational.  The museums sections are a wealth of information on merchant marines.  And man, the heat of the engine room is just obscene!  I don't know how those guys did it.

Weren't they still using 1800s steam engines in those things? All the turbines were for military ships

This could be a great opportunity for Trump to reshape Armed Forces into his image.
Who else can Trump kick out of the USN, USAF, USA, USMC and USCG and claim it's a budget saving reason?

Gays- Trump believes in "equal" treatment for all LGBT so they shouldn't serve either

Women- it's too costly to have separate bathrooms and to stock "women's things"

Immigrants- They're just doing as a way to sneak into the country. They really don't love the country.  After all Real Mericans Patriots say they really wanted to joint the military after they've come up with a bogus medical reason or crap their pants

Minorities- Trump watches old war movies and who won those wars for Merica? White Guys!

Anyone who isn't GOP- They're all traitors and hate Merica right?

Remember when the GOP would breathlessly freak out about stuff like that? When they would lose their minds about the wrong kind of mustard (spoiler alert, any kind of mustard on a hot dog is the wrong kind of mustard, ketchup or go back to Chicago), wrong kind of lettuce, bla bla bla? You would have thought they might double down and order up a straight laced ned flanders kind of president, as if to say "See? This is what we meant!!!" Nope, instead we got what appears to be the collective ID of a mental institution made manifest and it's just crickets all day long baby.

Funny how that all happens.

Soldiers are brave and their work especially oversees exposes them to a much broader reality.  They tend to be less ignorant and fearful of other cultures.  Trump's success was built on ignorance, fear and xenophobia and the military has gotten smarter over the years.  Many aren't fond of the Clintons but I bet you many (even the conservatives) they respected Obama and Biden, for instance, would do really well with them.

Oh, I don't think they'll want to, seeing as how all the solar panels on the border wall will let them light and air condition their tunnels and use electric scooters to move people to speed things up. Yup, once those get up and running it will be a lot safer for people.

I love the Coasties, they have literally saved friend's lives (and possibly mine...something something sudden storm, seas so big impellers on heat exchange crap out from sucking so much air, engine over heating, no power...something.   Coast Guard towing us over a closed Humboldt Bay bar.   They had a very busy day that day, several boats needing assistance off Cape Mendocino  (this was before the more accurate weather predictions of today).   The poor new kids, or reserve out on the old 44s were green with seasickness and they kept going.)   I want to shout out to Petty Officer 2nd Class Darren Harrity again.   Just because he deserves it.

The USCG, in the smaller ports anyway (Kodiak seems to have hermetically sealed itself more than when I lived there 30 plus years ago in terms of housing, shopping, etc) really integrate with their communities.  The ones I know personally are centrist or left of that.

Almost all of them were steam powered -steam powered  turbines or steam reciprocating engines. There were a  few Victory Ships that were diesel powered as well, the overwhelming majority used steam turbines. Their engine rooms were designed to universally accept either one of those three power plants.

Victory Ships were a very flexible hull design -they were used as cargo ships, ammunition supply ships, refrigerated store ships, troop ships, amphibious assault ships (I got to go on the one these before it was scrapped), et al.

Liberty Ships were built with rapidity of construction in mind (assembly line construction, etc.) and represented the bulk of US maritime construction during WWII. It took on average 42 days to build one Liberty Ship.
