Oh yeah, if you thought that the Trump administration was a trainwreck before just wait until you see the incompetence now that Priebus isn't there to smooth things over with the rest of the party.

I'm kinda looking forward to it.  The GOP thought that they could control Trump.  They've learned otherwise (hopefully).  So I hope they get a facefull of shiat sammich.

He has an impressive military resume, but I don't know if that translates to being a good Chief of Staff. What he does have is a hard on for building the border wall.
Par for the course with the Orange Menace. Not the most qualified for the position, but supports one of his pet projects.

Kelly expressed shock at the level of partisanship he encountered at DHS, saying, "What I never saw on the military side was the level of toxic kind of politics that are associated with what I do now."

That's what happens in a big merger of multiple competing cultures, interests and priorities. You have FEMA, which has its roots in the Cold War Civil Defense agency, the Coast Guard*, which has long had its own competing functions (are they military, cops, or maritime safety?). There are a bunch of different law enforcement agencies under the DHS umbrella, from Secret Service to the Federal Protective Service (the building guards).

I went to several Transportation conferences after 9/11 and it seems like every time they changed Secretaries, they would start changing the way they aligned their organizations ("we are going from modal alignment to functional" "we are going from a functional alignment to modal" "we are going to use aviation inspectors to help check pipelines").

Some of the DHS agencies were using lots of people on "detail" from their main agency - lots of DOT employees, lots of military. And lots and lots of contractors. I don't know if that's still true.

*And Trump's proposed budget cuts a lot of money from the Coast Guard. I'm sure that will help Kelly's successor gain the trust and confidence of his minions.

Would be nice if we could get twitter to hash tag all the resulting Internet slap fights this will cause as #realmenfistfight. The short in stature and short in shaft men who make up the administration would feel the need to rise to the insult. Daily boxing matches on the south lawn. I can definitely see Huckabee Sanders as king of the ring a la Pam Poovey.

In comments to CNN last month, Kelly expressed shock at the level of partisanship he encountered at DHS, saying, "What I never saw on the military side was the level of toxic kind of politics that are associated with what I do now."

And so you accept a job where you'll be working alongside Trump almost 24/7?

Don't these kind of high-level positions require psychological testing or brain scans first to week out the crazies?

What are the current odds of Kelly's eventual Twitter firing? I'm thinking.....September 14, 2017, give or take 6 days.
Kelly is military, being told to correct civilians who have been encouraged for the last six months to not get along or work together. Is there going to be a boot camp re-training of the group? Sure. Right. Lord knows what is going to happen next.....

Oh, saw something last night, that the Mooch is following a popular gay porn start on Facebook-didn't remember to book mark that.
Mooch's wife (not divorced yet) just gave birth-he hasn't seen the baby yet-but posted something about offering a prayer. His Mom hasn't seen the baby yet-lives not too far away from Diedra.

Perhaps the only thing that can save Trump at this point would be for Kelly to go to Jack Dorsey and demand Trump's Twitter account be shut down.  That would kill 75% of the turmoil in a heartbeat.

Of course, Trump would fire anyone who did that, and Dorsey is making too much money off of ad revenue with Trump's tweetstorms.

Trumpy's folly might be the rest of the world's blessing on this at least. The only thing that has me worried with him is his sharp disdain for Iran. Other than that, he serms relatively level headed. Mad dogs love steak too.

Because when a democratic civil government is infused with military leaders, it always works out for the best, right?

It's like the GOP really wants to provoke an armed uprising to justify a textbook coup d'etat.   It looks like this country will become a dictatorship and no one will notice for 50 years.   Truly, America no longer deserves a democracy, since Americans have voted overwhelmingly to eradicate it.

1. You don't ask a high-ranking officer to be a chief of staff. It's a different skill set. Might ask The Great Santini to be your dad.

2. It doesn't matter who's Trump's CoS. The only way he feels comfortable is in causing chaos around him. He plays people off each other because he's an insecure nincompoop and Kelly will soon face antagonism everywhere around him.

Being a sekrit mooselamb Kenyan terrorist?

Wait, shiat, what if Trump really is an Islamic extremist?!? What if this was Bin Laden's end game all along? What if the point was to fark with us so badly that we elected an Islamophobic gunt with a hard-on for fascism, but he was really a sleeper agent for Al Qaeda all along, and his goal is to be such a shiatty president that he ruins the country?

I'm not saying that's what really happened, I'm just saying that if it did it's succeeded.

Fewer people voted for Trump. Fewer people voted for GOP senators and Congressmen. Their majorities are and artifact of a system that is set up to give excessive power to rural areas at the expense of urban areas, which makes minority rule over the majority frightfully easy, so long as it's the conservatives in the minority.

Like most dictators, Trump just likes the military. When he got elected he said we were going to get new generals, he wanted a military parade with tanks, etc. Just like him telling police, "Rough up suspects", the military to him implies a threat of force. That, and military people understand a chain of command and so he can tell them what to do and they'll be "loyal".

A minefield would probably be faster and cheaper, and in addition, it defends itself. All kinds of inhumane and unethical, but this administration shows no sign of giving a fark about any of that, so why not?

For Trump it is "yes sir, yes sir, as many bags as you want to whatever degree of fullness that you desire sir".

Here's a disturbing thought I had the other day, re: Donald's "I love Generals" fetish...

(Other than his intense dislike of specifics, I mean)

Maybe it's a Daddy Thing.  He never ends up listening to these people so maybe he's trying to re-create his own relationship with his father...  he surrounds himself with authority figures whose input he ignores so he can bask in their disapproval.  Then he goes and has a big bowl of ice cream before picking a fight on Twitter.
