Considering that he's one of the most experienced and capable people that Donnie has in place, I don't doubt that he's having a hard time of it.

It's always a buzzkill when an adult walks into the room and tells that your sooper-kool plan to bring back a load of moon cheese, and sell it for like eleventy brazillian dollars, in the cardboard rocket you built in the backyard isn't actually going to work, and maybe you should be doing your homework instead...

This isn't a surprise.  D2S can't handle having anyone more intelligent than he is making decisions.  Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people, either.

The "smarter" of the bunch know to let Donnie believe he makes all the decisions and he's the smart one.

McMasters position might be more palatable to Sessions, who has the Senate to cover his ass.

The real goal is to fire Mueller.

2017-07-30 09:50:26 AM
McMaster's dangerously high level of competence is a poor fit for this WH. If he had just practiced his ability to tell the president how "great" and "tremendous" all his ideas are, he'd probably be doing better, but some people just can't hack it.

2017-07-30 09:55:01 AM
Doubt Donnie has any overarching scheme going on here, just Donnie lashing out in impotent rage.  Donnie hears Mueller's footsteps... every week some new set of charges gets socialized in the media (meetings with Russians, money laundering, human trafficking...). I think that's intentional.  Donnie's  impotent to control the narrative, so he lashes out at those around him.  Donnie is impotent.

It is the clashes between McMaster and Mattis that worry me. Are we talking about two people that differ on policy, or is Mattis looking for a solution to finally take care of the Korea problem?

2017-07-30 09:58:14 AM
If it gets down to just Trump and Bannon in the Oval Office, do you think THEN Congress might be worried enough to do something?

Yeah my first thought was "Of course he is, he's one of the few competant people in the Cabinet".  Oh well.

So, odds on whose in to replace him?  I'm thinking Erik Prince.

2017-07-30 10:01:34 AM
And his replacement is going to be Trump's old NYC golf chum Vinnie.

Vinnie's a good guy, you'll get to know him real good.

Congress literally warned him that if he deposes Sessions, a new AG could not be nominated until 2017. So I think he's smart enough not to paralyze the federal government's legal services for 6 months.

Sessions has the job he wants.  While Trump is indeed being unfair to him (this is an observation on my part, not an expression of sympathy), it was a potential good side effect of messing with Sessions' work in implementing bad policy.  I'd like to see Sessions dig in, Trump eventually fire him, and Congress finally put their feet down.

But McMaster already burned his credibility by flatly denying that D2S leaked intelligence to the Russians about Israel's spy in ISIS, and then D2S confirmed that he leaked it. I think Mattis is the only one left who has not lied to the press/public yet.

But if he does that then he can't prosecute Hillary. Not for a whole year at any rate, and then midterms come and it's not likely that the GOP will maintain control of the legislature after then.

Only if he launches a missile with Mueller strapped to it.

Amidst all of this soap opera/middle school drama did anyone else notice TFA mention that pesky war we're still fighting in Afghanistan? The one with no definition of victory, no chance of acheiving anything except more killing, uncounted billions of dollars wasted, and giving more people grudges against us that will last for decades.

How about somebody at a press conference asking why we're still pursuing this "kill people who don't pose any serious threat to us" policy.

I think it is finally is beginnig to sink in for trump: the world isn't waiting for trump and isn't giving trump a chance for any victory laps. The work is going to keep coming whether he gets yesterday's work done or not. So not only does he have yesterday's work, but has today's work as well.

So you want to fire and hire? The replacement will take 4-8 weeks to get into position because they need to go through congress. The work is still piling up. You want to threaten congress? They aren't scared of you and will retaliate. Congress has already started to retaliate: mukowski put a hold on all trump appointees for the department of the interior. The work is still piling up. You want to outright fire all ambassadors? Sure lose our primary point of contact with the rest of the world, the work still keeps piling up.

No. No he's not.

There's no master plan here. There's no clever scheme to ruin the government. There's no conspiracy.

No, this is merely incompetence raised to it's highest level.

Just like any sufficiently advanced technology might appear to be magic, so does unbelievably gross incompetence appear to be an incredibly elaborate evil plot.

It's not. It's just a bunch of really dumb guys playing government without knowing anything except where the government is located.
