This is news?  Lots of people black out from drinking booze in Mexico.

2017-07-29 10:46:02 AM
The brother and sister's blood alcohol levels were .24 and .25 respectively, after only "two drinks" - really?

I am shocked that somebody might black out after drinking. Clearly somebody is loading this alcohol with some sort of "super alcohol" that makes them far more intoxicated than usual.

2017-07-29 10:47:01 AM
You're pretty much brain dead for staying at one of those all-inclusive resorts in the first place. The booze makes no difference.

Anyone who ever says they only had just two drinks is lying.

When I was in Baja in December, I smuggled weed INTO Mexico.

Medical and prescription costs are lower.

That's because people go down there with a sprint mindset, instead of a marathon.

... But maybe not while hip-chest deep in water at the wade-up bar in the middle of the pool.  And certainly not after only two shots. Those must've been dosed with something.

Good Gods... as a former lifeguard that concept is simply horrifying from a safety perspective, and That's just for the drowning danger. The notion that tourists might be targeted, drugged and then robbed, raped, or extorted for medical fees is not going to do wonders for tourism.

TFA has numerous sentences such as:

"Neither can remember what happened next - vomiting and being escorted away by hotel security."

So I guess that hotels are used to this common behavior and have staff protocols to handle it.

The extent to which drinks are drugged will be hard to determine from anecdotes since now everybody can claim its not their fault that they vomited and passed out.

So true. It's pretty much a joke among law enforcement. The only answer to the question of how much someone has had to drink is always two--it's never one or three. Strange phenomenon.

So you're not a relatively wealthy white tourist, with your guard down, slurping down whatever your All Inclusive Resort's bartender pours you. This seems to be targeting a specific person, and the fact that Expedia and other online sites refuse to allow anyone to even mention these episodes is troubling, too.

I stayed at a few all inclusives in Jamaica, and was always uncomfortable with the fact that they were basically walled fortresses, and that every time my wife or I ventured anywhere close to the gates someone on staff would run over and offer to call us a taxi because it wasn't safe to walk outside the facility. Third world tourism is a crapshoot at best, and in places like this you might as well be Bill Gates wandering around Somalia with a sack full of gold.

You read it, but missed the part where the hospital reported that they had more than enough alcohol in their systems to make them black out without any additional drugs?

This seems more like one of those "scares" like the "lights out" game scare a while back. Social media and parents who can't believe their precious snowflakes might have gotten blotto drunk at an all-inclusive resort all on their own are probably more to blame for this story than anything else.

I suppose the hospital that reported their blood alcohol levels might be in on the whole plot to drug the snowflakes... I have no idea what would be in it for them, though. Occam's Razor argues that this is simply a case of two young adults who got carried away at an all-you-can-drink bar and passed out because of the normal reason, they drank far more than they could handle. You might handle .29 or .30 before blacking out... others can't manage .20 - I'd also argue the similarity of their levels, .24 and .25 is consistent with them drinking at the same pace and having the same genetic disposition for handling their alcohol.

...but hey, let's not let common sense and silly things like "Facts" ruin a good scare, amiright?

There is only so much alcohol in alcohol. Even if you're drinking 180 proof, it goes into your system at a certain rate. There is no possible way to drink "two drinks" of anything and have a .25 BAC.

There are other ways to get that kind of BAC, and have only had two DRINKS, and I can see why they would not want to tell their parents how it happened.

Begs to differ, yes you can have "2 drinks" and have a .25.  Granted its not a traditional way.

This is what is so infuriating about Fark. It's obvious you and others in this thread are being facetious. What you are basically saying is that it's ok to be drugged, robbed, and raped if you are white and have saved enough money to vacation somewhere. Because the victims are white and "wealthy" by third world standards, and the perps are brown, it is perfectly ok to discount these horror stories, and joke about the inability to hold your alcohol. You, and those here following this line are assholes, and should reassess their reasons for living.
