All this was so predictable.  Tillerson doesn't seem like a dumb-dumb.  I'm surprised he's lasted this long.  Working for Trump must be a real "adventure".

2017-07-24 08:12:53 AM
Wow.  I'm surprised.  He really seemed committed to the endeavor and serving our country by creating a profound veteran diplomatic corps to assert out national interest.

2017-07-24 08:52:33 AM
It's supposed to be the second most powerful job in the government and he can't even pick his own assistants. He seems to be trying to do the job regardless of how he got there. I'd be frustrated too.

Looks like he is getting bored of marking time while waiting for President Pence.

2017-07-24 09:42:50 AM
When your boss is tossing Qatar to the wolves because he's got no hotels there, it can make the job a wee bit of a challenge.

2017-07-24 09:43:04 AM
If they can't lift sanctions for him to open up business for ExxonMobil (500B in business) then he's got little left to do.

2017-07-24 10:04:14 AM
Now that he's nearly done destroying the morale of the Foreign Service there are no challenges left for him at State.

2017-07-24 10:04:24 AM
Well they've already decapitated the State department, may as well have the secretary leave too.

2017-07-24 10:04:50 AM
The United States' Secretary of State Rex Tillerson may be considering parting ways with the White House amid widening differences with President Donald Trump on a number of subjects

For example, Tillerson believes in reality.

2017-07-24 10:05:38 AM
He's not frustrated. He's smart and he probably spoke to his lawyers. They told him to get out now before the arraignments and subpoenas start. My guess is that he has involvement with some shady (if not illegal) dealings with Russia and several other countries/entities. He sees the writing on the wall and is trying to protect himself before things go really bad.

2017-07-24 10:06:31 AM
it's too bad he's as beholden as he is to the oil industry.  absent all else, he seems reasonably intelligent, willing to take the job seriously, and able to understand the benefit of measured and judicious responses to complicated situations

2017-07-24 10:06:43 AM
I'll believe it when he's gone.

Well, there is that whole "manufacturing a pretext for war with Iran" bit, but that fell through when Rex decided to do his job instead of toadying for Trump.

Trump will eventually figure out that he's not an emperor. I wonder what happens then?

Press TV? So Iran has insider knowledge of our Sec of State?

2017-07-24 10:08:02 AM
He thought he could prevent the justice dept. from coming down on Exxon for breaking the law. Once he found out he didn't have that power, he's been looking for a reason to quit and go back to his several billion a year income

AKA: I've done for Exxon Mobil all I could and now I'm gonna flee this farking rat ship. I know all of these people who hitched their wagon to trump cant be that stupid to not realize what a con job piece of shiat he is. Some, I suppose, trump has dirt on, and some are stupid, but a guy like Tillerson I can only imagine was in this for himself or his business. Certainly not out of altruism for the American People. It's fine though if he bounces. Every little bit helps to keep this train wreck shiat shop of an admin getting any kind of forward motion.

It's a reprint of a CNN story.

The CNN reported on Monday...

So they're "THE CNN" now?  A bit pompous...

2017-07-24 10:09:58 AM
I'll wait until he actually leaves his position because we've heard this before with Bannon, Priebus, Kushner, Sessions, etc. Especially coming from an Iranian based news source.

2017-07-24 10:10:35 AM
It's almost as if 'businessmen' are not appropriate for government. Who knew?

2017-07-24 10:11:00 AM
I'm not about to give Tillerson the benefit of doubt. If he's leaving its because he couldn't advance his own agenda. There is no nobility in finding out NOW that Donald Trump is a POS. He took that job knowing what Trump was. If he was stupid enough to think there would be a pivot, then he deserves what he's dealing with.

The Treasury levied a $2 million fine against Exxon Mobil just last week over violations of sanctions against Russia while Tillerson was running it. It sort of got buried by other news.

I have no friggin' idea why on earth he took that job.  He could have spent the last 6 months riding around in a cigarette boat in a hawaiian shirt but oh no, just had to take the presteige job.

There are 4 kinds of politicians/civil servants.
1.  Honest and competent
2.  Honest and incompetent
3.  Corrupt and competent
4.  Corrupt and incompetent

Tillerson seems to be in group 3, which still puts him ahead of all the people in group 4, including the president.

So with Tillerson out do we expect Gingrich or Christie to take over at State? Trump is already floating Giuliani to replace Sessions.

And yes: it has been said time and again that Giuliani's dirty background would never allow him to be approved for a cabinet position, but we've already found out that doesn't disqualify in this administration.

Russia never really wanted that. It was all huff and puff. His rhetoric about Iran is about like his religious faith --- all show for the gullible.

I'm curious to see if Trump can get anyone confirmed from now on. Maybe if ours a 'known' quantity like Gingrich or Giuliani.

Yes.  He is extremely competent by all knowledgeable accounts (fark posters excepted of course).  I feel him and SECDEF are what's keeping us safe and 2 scoops away from the sharp objects.  I think they are doing the job desperately trying to not let the US completely implode.  Just because he doesn't stomp around in public pouting like a child or other politician does not mean he isn't pushing hard on an agenda or reason.  Iran is a good example:  Hey Mr Pres you can have your own opinions but not your own facts...Iran is in compliance.

This. 'Member of Trump administration considers quitting' stories are just white noise at this point. Unless someone actually sneks up and quits, this isn't much to get excited about.

FTFA:Most recently, Tillerson was said to have been rebuked by Trump because the secretary of state had failed to provide the US president with "options" other than certifying Iranian compliance with a 2015 multilateral nuclear deal, to which the US is a party.

Fark isn't pro Exxon enough for you?  I mean, I've never seen it claimed he was a dumb ass, just that he's another guy with outstanding conflicts of interest and ties to Russia.

Yeah, a competent Secretary of State should have taken Trump out back and beat the ever-loving shiat out of him by now.
