Now it'll get the attention of all the old white men in Congress.

I was wondering when a thread about this would be greened, especially since quite a few (and yes, some were rather tasteless headlines) were not.

That said, she was shot through the driver's window from the passenger side? So, the passenger seat cop leaned forward and shot her in front of the driver? From a Star Tribune article with slightly more information, if you're wondering where that came from.

You're never unarmed when you have a yoga mat.

From another article -
Three people "with knowledge of the incident" told the Star Tribune that the responding officers pulled into the alley behind Damond's home. The woman, wearing pajamas, approached the driver's side door and was talking to the driver, the newspaper reported. The officer in the passenger seat then shot Damond through the driver's side door, the three people told the newspaper.

The cop in the driver's seat was lucky he wasn't shot. Maybe they'll get the idiot cop for attempted murder on the driver.

We'll finally get some cops convicted of murder on the bright side

WHAT?

The two cops will be lucky if they don't have permanent hearing loss/tinnitus (well, hopefully that farktard in the passenger seat will have tinnitus for the rest of his life to constantly, every second of every day, remind him of his gunning down of an underdressed yoga instructor...).

What a farked up situation that of course will end with the police department investigating itself & discovering that it did nothing wrong after all.

She approached the vehicle. The cops were scared, so they shot. Being a cop is scary.

According to the bureau, the two officers did not have their body cameras turned on, nor did the squad camera record the fatal shooting.

Huh...striking lack of opinions that this lady deserved to get shot.

I mean, she did run up to the cops and just start interacting with  them.  She was a stranger to them, she had no way of knowing whether they'd respond with agression.  That's why you always ask the owner if you can pet them first...

....oh wait....I'm thinking of dogs.  It's dogs you need to be careful of.  Police officers are highly-trained human beings and are surely safe to approach if you need help.

Wait, what the fark?

When this story first came out, I was assuming that the cops were on foot, behind her house or something, and she went out to talk to them and they got trigger happy/nervous; they're responding to a report of an attack, it's at night.  Not the best outcome, but at least the circumstances would be understandable.

But THIS?  What the flying fark?

I'm sure Destroyer69 will be here to explain how the woman had it coming.

(I keed, I keed, he's actually mellowed out a lot lately)

If the cops were still sitting in their car it would explain why their body cameras weren't on, but it sure as hell doesn't explain the shooting. In fact it makes it even more suspicious.

From department policy, this might not be unusual. Squad car cameras are often activated manually, or on automatic if the overhead lights are on. Body cameras might have a policy where officers are to turn them on when they exit the vehicle.

I am having a hard time thinking of a scenario where this would be a justified shooting.  Did he think her cell phone was a gun?  That is a little hard to believe because a) a cellphone looks nothing like a gun, and b) she was already engaged in conversation with the driver, which would presumably establish her as not a threat.  I think he needs to prepare himself for prison.

When I think about it, I do approach a police officer kind of the same way I approach a strange dog.  First, without making eye contact, I observe from a safe distance and decide whether he/she looks aggressive or agitated.  If everything looks okay, then I approach slowly and calmly and speak in a quite voice.  If I get a positive response, only then do I hold out my hand and let them sniff the back of it, then I'll gently rub them behind the ear, and if things are going really well we do a tummy rub.

Okay, the last part was dogs only.  But the rest still works.

Aw crap, THIS is the angle they're going to go with.  Minority officer shoots white lady - clearly we need to restrict immigration more, so this stops happening.  My bet: He'll be kicked off the force, and may actually do jail time.  But nothing will change for most officers - unless they're Somali immigrants.

This doesn't sound suspicious to me, just utterly utterly idiotic. I'd bet anything that dumbass in the passenger seat got excited, drew his weapon planning to jump out and find some bad guys, and accidentally discharged it in the car. The woman just happened to be unlucky.

We don't know all the facts yet. He may have asked for her ID and then she may have reached for her ID, which would make this a good shoot by recently established Minnesota law.

Between this and the obviously bullshiat answers about the officer shooting two dogs in the owner's backyard, the Minneapolis Police are going to have some serious 'splainin to do.

As a resident of the area, I'm hoping this leads to some serious changes in local police contracts, outlawing that bullshiat 'Bulletproof Warrior' training and changing their rules of engagement.  But that is, I suspect, purely wishful thinking on my part.
