"The personal, as everyone's so farking fond of saying, is political. So if some idiot politician, some power player, tries to execute policies that harm you or those you care about, take it personally. Get angry. The Machinery of Justice will not serve you here - it is slow and cold, and it is theirs, hardware and soft-. Only the little people suffer at the hands of Justice; the creatures of power slide from under it with a wink and a grin. If you want justice, you will have to claw it from them. Make it personal. Do as much damage as you can. Get your message across. That way, you stand a better chance of being taken seriously next time. Of being considered dangerous. And make no mistake about this: being taken seriously, being considered dangerous marks the difference - the only difference in their eyes - between players and little people. Players they will make deals with. Little people they liquidate. And time and again they cream your liquidation, your displacement, your torture and brutal execution with the ultimate insult that it's just business, it's politics, it's the way of the world, it's a tough life and that it's nothing personal. Well, f*ck them. Make it personal."

Congress doesn't represent the people, they represent their donors.

The way they see it, they know that about 40% of the population will mindlessly support them no matter what they do, by turning out and voting straight-ticket.  They just need to maximize turnout of that 40%, use voter suppression means on their opponents voters, and use lots of SuperPAC money to turn out campaign ads and lots of social media astroturfing on the undecideds in the middle.

Note how public opinion or good public policy isn't in that equation.  They aren't about democracy, they are about creating a one-party state with themselves as an oligarchy.

And she will still receive overwhelming voter support.

There is no upside to her meeting with the angry constituents, and no downside for not meeting with them. . . unless people vote in their own interests.

Good luck with that.

It's only 'class warfare' when the poor start fighting back. Or complaining. Or doing anything besides accepting that they are no more than cogs in the profit-generating machine, to be used, worn out and replaced as the Job Creators (profit be upon them) see fit.

It's almost as if your constituents are angry about something. Oh well, the best thing to do is not engage and continue doing what you're doing. it's for the best.

The really sad part is she's the rep from Fort Worth, one of the conservative strongholds in Texas. Fort Worth is largely republican, and she has no call to fear for her safety. She'd be reelected if Christ ran against her (provided there wasn't an R next to his name.)

You can try all you want in a district that votes 70% Republican every election. Your chances of success are going to be very low. People in that district aren't gonna suddenly start voting for Democrats because they hold weekly town halls.

no one in this country votes.
no one in texas votes, especially. you know why? because of people like you telling them "you can't win." and that just lets the GOP majority gerrymander more, suppress votes more, and they don't really have to when there's moderate democrats like you with the rallying cry of "Nah, don't bother."

Never said they would.  Might be a chance to put a different message in front of people though...even if they don't change, it gives them options other than the Fox news bubble-of-suck and maybe just maybe that Texas teenager peeking out from under moms skirt sees a message they like....future voter.  Who knows?...the point is that doing nothing about these districts has ended in disaster...time to change the game man...or you know...continue to descend into madness with the status quo.

Im not even American and I would like to see it saved, but if Americans are giving up...then fark it...so do I.

You aren't going to be putting a message in front of people because they simply aren't going to show up at a Democratic weekly town hall unless you round them up at gunpoint.

If a Republucan in your heavily blue district started holding weekly town halls would you attend? No? Then why would you expect the opposite for voters on her district?

Yeah, we're not.  I'm a 50-state strategy guy myself.  Make them fight for every single goddamn seat.

It would be nice if, just once in their miserable farking existence, the DNC would act like they give a shiat about winning representation in this country.  They're a farking embarrassment.

To be fair, nothing can get done at Town Hall meetings by either side, because there are deliberately disruptive people attending that won't follow decorum.

The Democrats have struggled with the same problem, Maxine Waters filtered her attendees, then was trapped inside by protesters.  Only when she was escorted by Police, could she leave; ironically it's the same police she vehemently hates and rails against.

Texas heavily pursued gerrymandering.  So places like Austin Texas were sliced like a pizza with the crust (bigger), end in solid red areas, neutralizing the liberal population.
Since the GOP wrestled control of Texas they passed horrible health care laws, similar to McConnell's.  The number of women who die in childbirth there since their law was passed has doubled every year in the most recent available public health statistics.  This is what they want for the entire country.  Don't go to TX if you plan to start a family.
