Marvelous indeed. I'll have to track down that Black Mirror episode.

And for anyone who hasn't seen "Attack the Block" go, now.

I want a return of River Song now.

With a makeout scene.

For the sake of....diversity. Yeah, that'll do.

Huh.  Thanks.  She's cute.  Haven't seen her in anything but I hope she has a native quirky personality.  That's really all it takes.

Judy Greer would be an excellent choice.

I'd love to see River in more episodes, but then I'd love to see a lot of the past characters make guest appearances. Jack Harkness, Rose, Martha Jones, Amy and Rory, it would be nice to see them show up in an episode every now and then. Not sure why this show has such a scorched earth policy when it comes to previous characters.

Captain Jack, Rory, Donna, and Bill.

I've seen every Doctor Who episode from the start of Jon Pertwee though the first David Tenant season.. but I've gotten out of the habit of watching.  Just seen a few Matt Smith episodes, and no Peter Capaldi yet.

This new woman.. well, she has a pleasant face, but that's all I know about her so far.

Having Jack Harkness turn up with a bow would be a nice nod. Or with a packet of Tim Tams.

Aside from the actors and actresses having moved on, a lot of their stories are done.

Rose - in the alt universe with 10
Jack - Torchwood,,he could comeback. However the actor has aged so any meeting would have to place in the future
Martha - when last seen was off with Mickey working for UNIT, they could come back
Donna - her memory wipe
Amy & Rory - weeping angels and timey whimey
Clara - Doctor's memory wipe
River - outside of spoliers it would be pretty hard to cram 13 into her story unless it was post-library like with 11
Bill - not sure if her and her girlfriend can come back

I am pleased that this discussion is civil, unlike the announcement discussion. That discussion was worse than the flamewar that ensued when DC announced that they were casting a female Wonder Woman.

I'm assuming you're joking.  Rose showed up in more episodes after she left than Bill was in total.  It's not special if you do it constantly.  See Daleks and Angels fit examples.

JW starred in Broadchurch with David Tennant. Small town on the southcoast murder-mystery type deal. She was good but it was a pretty grounded role so not at all similar to the Dr

But she has had a longstanding and successful collaboration with Chris Chibnall (the incoming producer), so
that is only a good sign to me.

Oh, please!  Have you actually watched any Doctor Who?  To somehow claim that Tennant is overacting the role is pretty hilarious.  He's certainly no more guilty of it than any other actor to play the role in the new series.

There's a reason why "acting with his teeth" became a phrase.  The only time he actually tried to so emotion "I don't want to go!!!!" was laughable.  Look at 9 in Dalek.  That was acting.

Yes, and it was an stupid observation that ignores his performance.  I have watched all the episodes multiple times and there is nothing there on which to legitimately base a claim that Tennant is any worse than any of the other actors in the role.  It's just petty, whiny idiocy.

This kind of thinking always makes me scratch my head. It's a show about time travel, anything is possible. Just because something was said or done in a past episode doesn't mean that can't or shouldn't change. Thinking along these lines is one of the things that keeps this show so limited.

David Tennant's overacting in Doctor Who was more jarring because he did it with his teeth.

However, I blame the director far more for Tennant's occasional overacting that Tennant himself.  It's the director's responsibility to tell the actor to tone it down/rein it in/walk it back/not so much/whatever.

I've been saying this for years. You can't blame actors for bad performances or movies, it's the director who decides if a scene was good or needs to be shot again. He's also the one sitting in the editing room choosing what take to use as well. And if the actor wasn't right for the part to begin with, well the director was (at least partly) to blame for casting them in the first place.
