It would have taken about 12 seconds for the lawyer to find this out before throwing obvious b.s. out there. But lies and misdirection are what wins with Trumptards.

So why were Secret Service there? Was there someone else there who did have Secret Service protection.

That's some real fine law -talking there Sekulow!

Well, the only people at the time in the Trump family who had protection at that time were Trump Sr and Melania.

Fine lawyerin', indeed. Because we all know what that implies.

Simplest explanation is that they weren't there.  This is just fairly bizarre conspiracy-mongering.  I wouldn't expect the protective detail to ever confirm or deny their presence anywhere for any reason.

Can the Secret Service be compelled to testify in cases like this? Not publicly, but could Mueller compel the agents who were in the Tower that day, for example, to give a statement about where they were and what they saw/heard?

The Secret Service could have really farked with this guy if it wanted to do so.

It could have announced it only screened peopke who were meeting with Trump himself and it cannot confirm or deny it screened anyone to meet with him in June 2016.

But, throughout the base, all the Trumpeters are saying, "yup, it's just as I thought, the Seekrit Survuss was really in favor of Crooked Hillary."  Every farking thing these people say anymore is not aimed at divulging the truth, but playing to Trump's base.

And nevermind, I Googled. Looks like they were told they had to back with Clinton. I'm sure that Sessions would furiously try to get that changed.

You think nobody at Trump tower screened the people going to meet with Jr?  Or were they simply allowed to waltz in and just get on an elevator?

Russia meeting was never cleared with us

Donald Trump, Jr. was not a protectee of the USSS in June, 2016

Why would they need to clear a meeting of someone they weren't protecting? Is this just a Raw Story headline fail or am I missing something?

Considering Trump is deep in debt to the Russians, why would security bother the owners of the building by checking them?

Trump Tower got a huge tax abatement for putting in a public park on ( I think ) the 4th floor.  The public is allowed in Trump Tower because of this.

Jay Sekulow is not acting as Trump's attorney in any meaningful sense. The president is so thin-skinned that he can't just say, "We have no further comment at this time," so he needs a spokesperson.  And this investigation is so toxic that his spokespeople can't defend him without exposing themselves to legal jeopardy, so he needs a spokesperson who can say, "Mr. President, I don't want to hear any further information without putting myself in legal jeopardy."  As an added perk, he can claim attorney-client privilege when it's convenient, as he did during this interview.

But Fake News! Witch hunt! Yada yada yada.  It's totally normal to retain a lawyer to act a spokesperson for your 3 other lawyers, your lawyer's lawyer, your son's lawyer, and your son-in-law's lawyer(s?- I've honestly lost track).

That doesn't mean that certain floors (i.e. those other than the 4th) wouldn't have controlled access.  That's easy to do.

My favorite excuse from the Trumpers is this:

"The Russian attorney was allowed to enter the country in 2015. Guess who was president then?"

Candidates are only protected 120 days (~4 months) in advance of an election.  His protection should have started around the first week of July - after the meeting.

I might be going out on a limb here, but my impression is that the Secret Service would only do a threat assessment of the person and not an assessment of how damaging the person could be to your campaign.

That's like blaming Ronald Reagan for Jeffrey Dahmer. It's so stupid it's ridiculous.

They really need to work on unifying their message.

"Donny Jr. didn't do anything wrong"
"The Secret Service should have stopped Donny Jr. from doing what he did."

Either of those are perfectly cromulent responses.  They're lies, but at least their internally consistent lies.

"Donny Jr. didn't do anything wrong and the Secret Service should have stopped him from breaking the law" on the other hand ...

Does Trump hire anyone who isn't mind numbingly stupid?

His choice in lawyers is proof positive that he has only been able to have any modicum of success in lawsuits because he has a lot of money to throw at it.

Settling the case still kind of counts as success.

Donald Trump Jr. wasn't a protectee, but was Donald Trump? Answer that Mr. Secret Service Guy. Because if you were really protecting Donald Trump, you obviously should have known to protect his future Presidency from his son doing something monumentally stupid.

In the email thread, Goldstone told Jr he would send the names of the attendees, so they would be cleared by security.
Either it was done over the phone or Jr deleted a section of the email chain.
But that's beside the point, Trump tower should have sign in records. Doubtful any security cam footage was retained...

Hopefully Mueller already has that sorted...

The lawyer was just slinging shiat.  Spray enough around and nobody wants to go there -- and if they do try, it's covering the writing on the wall anyway.   That's often the goal.  See also Wookie defense.

 Trolls are the mind-killer.

Trolls are the little-death that obliterate threads.
I will face the trolls.
I will permit them to pass over me and through me.
And when they have gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the trolls have gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

There are 52,711 practicing lawyers in DC.

I think a few of them are not yet on Team Trumpy.
