Wonder what the right job is?

Question 19 years and he sentence was two years, is he out on parole or does NZ put 16/17 y/o's in jail?

And they let family members share cells?
Does getting a jail house tattoo break prison rules?

I'm sure there's plenty to be outraged about, along with many accusations of "snowflake," "welfare fraud," "bootstraps," et al.

But the article does point out that the dude doesn't have a car. So that can be kind of limiting.

That's about the only excuse he could have to turn down any job.  Too far to be feasible.  When i was dirt poor, the "right job" was "any job" and I took the first one that was offered despite knowing I would hate it.

Not having a car is a stupid excuse. I've had a few jobs that required me to either bike or walk several miles to get there each day because I was too poor to own and/or maintain a car. And I did it because my dad didn't raise a lazy farkup. I even got fired from a video store job after only a week because it was a five mile walk in the middle of summer and I always showed up sweaty, which customers complained about (which was fair). But I was that dedicated to having a job that I tried it anyways.

Oh my god. I just realized I'm turning into an old man with "in my day...!" stories. I'm only 30! When did this happen?!

Can't he grow a beard like every other 19 year old?
Or maybe wear a surgical mask and claim he has allergies?
He could just get the rest of it filled in too. Then its just a solid block of ink.
(quick & dirty but he's used to that)

Yep, the tattoo on his face allows us to perfectly judge him.  It says, "I have incredibly poor judgement and there is something seriously wrong with me".  We don't even need to look into his background and find out that he just got out of prison for armed robbery; the tattoo says it all.

In my defense, I was a fresh 18 year old who despite my work ethic still harbored a "fark what everyone thinks!" mentality and expected everyone to just deal with it. At the time I was even pretty insulted by the firing and remember ranting at my boss on my way out the door. It wasn't until a few years later when I matured a bit more that I realized I was acting like an idiot and absolutely anyone could have predicted my getting the boot.

I don't miss being that young. At all.

New Zealander here

There's plenty of these idiots in our country, neck/facial tattoos and sporting gang colours (red is Mongrel Mob).  He has been in the news a bit the last week and has been offered plenty of labouring jobs - we have a big construction labour shortage here . My bet is that he's holding out for something like Sports Promoter or Hip Hop Producer or Record Company CEO.  Or maybe he's just hoping the Green Party comes to power in the next election and raises his unemployment benefit 20% as per their latest policy announcement - yay welfare state.

There isn't any point in him getting the tat removed.  He'll be back in prison before long anyway.

I'm all for welfare if it keeps lazy morons out of the way of people doing real work. In my experience it's the people at work who don't want to be there that drag everything else down and make the job harder than it needs to be. Give'em a basic needs check and tell them to stay home. I've got shiat to do and you're in my way.
