bacon wrapped sausages

Bacon is for breakfast. Sausage is for lunch or dinner.

I live in the Land of the best Wurst and that's how they do it. So that's how I do it.

Bacon is one of the most versatile foods/ingredients. I defy you to make a dish that wouldn't be improved by adding bacon to it. Can't be done.

Links or patties?

/Anyone who says patties is a godless worm with atrocious taste.

Crispy bacon. Can be used for so many things, and the grease is great for frying up potatoes or popping popcorn. Just for starters.

Yes.

I'm sorry you've never had a good sausage patty.

The question is not whether you'll have sausage and bacon.  The question is whether you'll have a side of scrapple with that.

/or maybe a nice blood pudding

I prefer sausage.

Bacon is good, especially when it's cooked just right, but there's more margin for error.

I grew up thinking I didn't like bacon, but that's because my parents cooked it in the microwave and drained as much fat as possible away, until it would shatter when you bit into it.

Nice chewy pan fried bacon is great, but I prefer the spices in sausage.

2017-07-16 01:55:27 PM
I prefer bacon, but sausage is an acceptable substitute provided it is pork link sausage. No sausage patties or beef and/or poultry is permissible.

Presumably in context we're talking about basic American "streaky" bacon vs. standard American country/breakfast sausage.

There are lots of amazing sausages out there, but this is about the kind that wouldn't make a breakfast diner patron in Georgia ask what the hell he had been served.

Bacon, duh.

Bacon is made from salted pork bellies.

Sausage is made from unspeakable miscellaneous parts.

Nuff said.

Patties.

I don't even like the smell of sausage, everything about it is disgusting to me.  Now bacon on the other hand, that goes well by itself or on salads and sandwiches.  Bacon is the only pork product I'll eat.

/This debate is a no brainer
//bacon by a landslide

2017-07-16 02:06:26 PM
Bacon is clearly the victor.

Sausage can be delicious, don't get me wrong, but bacon is far more versatile. It makes just about everything better. Hell, dip it in chocolate and you have yourself a dessert. You can wrap vegetables in it, wrap other meats in it, and crumble it up in salads or vegetable dishes. It's damn near the perfect meat.

Bacon-wrapped sausage!

2017-07-16 02:07:38 PM
Bacon is just salt

I'll take sausage any day

Just a big ol sausage right in my mouth

Fill me with that sausage

2017-07-16 02:09:17 PM
It depends.  Bacon is a food group all of its own.  Bacon also makes everything better.

Sausage comes in much more varieties though.  From Andouile on down, sausage is just as versatile as bacon, and it could also be a food group unto itself.

If I have to pick, as much of a bacon lover as I am, I'd have to say sausage only because of Nuremburg Brats.  There's no other food that compares.  Now, I have to make a trip to Trader Joe's or Aldi to grab a few packs.

2017-07-16 02:10:48 PM
Is this breakfast sausage? Then bacon wins easily.

Now if you have to choose between sausages in general vs bacon, I think I'd pick the sausages - longaniza, chorizo, italian, kielbasa, and so on, so much delicious variety!

2017-07-16 02:11:33 PM
Tough choice. Bacon is amazing, but a good spicy sausage goes beyond that to mind boggling. So I've got to vote for extra spicy Italian. That's my choice, and I'm sticking to it. Maybe wrapped in bacon? Compromise is good.

I read that as "sausage PARTY" and got a good laugh before I realized what you had written.
And there's nothing funny about what you actually wrote.

Some of the best bacon I had was on a trip to Virginia, it was thick cut, lightly smoke cured and peppered.
We cooked it in an iron skillet over an open fire, and I'll never forget it.

2017-07-16 02:12:41 PM
They're both great, but there's something about the combination of fat, salt, and herbs/spices in sausage that makes me feel very blah after having it for breakfast

/as opposed to bacon, which is just fat and salt
//it's the herbs/spices...obviously they're very very bad for you.

This is tough.
Biscuits and gravy are worth getting a heart attack.
Bacon wrapped anything is also worth getting a heart attack.

Sausage-wrapped bacon.

I think sausage, if only for the incredible variety of choices out there.  And they can be used in so many ways.

But bacon is more consistent.  Bad bacon is usually palatable still.  Sausage can be absolutely awful, if done wrong.

Links if they're on the side, but patties are a must for any kind of breakfast sandwich.

There is no need to waffle over this choice.

Have both!

2017-07-16 02:24:04 PM
Breakfast sausage seems so contrived and full of mystery ingredients and chemicals, and those occasional white bits that you can't chew.

Bacon at least resembles meat, and looks pure. They've done a good job integrating the curing chemicals.

Sign me up for link sausage from any beast combined with other things I'd have to open the fridge to find to be added as a condiment.

The smell of thick cut applewood-smoked bacon cooking makes me Homerdrool in a way nothing else does.
And it tastes even better.

2017-07-16 02:25:24 PM
Speaking strictly as a breakfast side, I'll go with thick cut bacon. Now if we're talking breakfast sandwich, you can't beat a sausage patty. As for everything else, both can be equally useful and damned tasty as well.

2017-07-16 02:27:06 PM
Bacon. Why is this even a debate?

Bacon over breakfast sausage, but if it's any kind of sausage I'd probably lean that way.

Luckily this is MERICA, where I can eat both!

I can name a bunch of dishes that even if you add bacon they're worse than eating bacon straight

Bacon for breakfast. Sausages on the grill for sammiches (had hot Italian sausages with sauerkraut, dijon mustard and grilled jalapenos on a regular hot dog bun last week: it  was like a UN of sammiches).
