Being friends with a Republican has apparently replaced the importance of having a Black friend for Democrats.

Bill Clinton is also friends with Trump and that guy who owned the Lolita Express.

yeah he was just folksy enough to make everyone believe that he didn't know that the neo-cons were up to.  Bush family and Cheney big into the military industrial complex and big oil. What did we expect to happen? Combine those two interests and all that money waiting to be won and it was easy to predict what happened.

Clinton wasn't in town at the time, the book recounts. So Bush Sr. walked into his office, put his feet on Clinton's desk and phoned him: "Hey Bill, nice office ... where are you, anyway?"

If this is true, it might be the funniest thing I'll read today. Clearly these are two men with a sense of humor. Only humor can heal divides and eventually use those divides as a strength.

As an aside, I very clearly and pleasantly recall their collaboration post-Katrina. I donated money even though I'm from New Orleans (it was the $100 a stranger insisted I take after seeing my Saints shirt in an airport). Made the call from a cheap motel room in Philadelphia. Their commercials were proof that the United States does not ways have be so goddamn polarized. Sadly, a short time later we saw the GOP media hounding a governor for being too cooperative with a Democratic president in the aftermath of a similar fiasco. So I doubt we'll see many Clinton/Bush-type bff stories in the near future.

Because being friendly with your professional enemies is only for grownups, apparently.

The only thing I would ever have to say to Dubya is, "Did you find the WMDs yet? Do you think the families of dead soldiers laughed while you pretend-searched under tables? Does it make you laugh?"

Those guys have way more in common with each other than they will with any of us, regardless of party and politics. People being confused by this are like college football fans being confused by how their coach can be such good friends with the coach of their hated rival school.

What I'm upset with is moderate Democrats who are moving the behavior they will accept to the right just to not be that guy, who I guess I am.

I noticed a lot of people on the Democratic side wishing Kasick had won the nomination because he was one of the reasonable ones, this is the abortion bill he signed.

I don't know where you're getting your data from, but around these parts it seems like the opposite: purging one's social circle of Republicans is becoming the signal du jour. It's gotten bad enough that some Democrats are finally starting to speak out against the phenonenon.

Bill Clinton is also friends with Trump and that guy who owned the Lolita Express.

It's true that the Clintons and the Trumps were friends for years, but I doubt that survived 2008, and I'd be stunned if it survived 2016.

And those speaking out are willing to accept a lot of conservative BS in order to be civil, and to find common ground.

If someone wants to outlaw all abortions except those where the mother's life is in danger or the pregnancy is the result of incest or rape it won't be long till some Democrats say well at least he doesn't want to outlaw all abortions.

In some cases it because conservatives are related to people I care about, in others it is because a bunch of knee jerk Democrats are bad people are just ill informed or actually caring people on an individual basis.

He had no business running the country, and he left a lot of dead or disabled people in his wake. But he was smart enough to keep his head down after leaving office, and unlike Trump, he appears to have some capacity for self relfection. It could very well be a wiser W in the Oval Office today, if we had the option to put him there. But if we get to have our fantasies, there are other ex-presidents I'd rather have back.

No to killing them
No to not letting them run or vote.

My plan is don't accept a slap because it is not a boot to the head.

Don't laud people for being less worse than the worst among them.

Don't say, for example, Kasich is sane wish he was the Republican candidate, say why can't there be a Republican candidate like Eisenhower.

fark both these guys. For very different reasons. Clinton brought scandal upon himself wit a 21 yr old intern
(very Southern Republican of him) knowing full well that there was an entire industry dedicated to bringing him down, AND he also broke bread with assholes like Newt Gingrich and DJT.

fark Bush because first his dereliction allowed 9/11, and then he ginned up a bullshiat war with a Iraq which we are still fighting today.
