July 15 (UPI) -- Turkey marked the one-year anniversary of a failed faked military coup by firing about 7,400 police, soldiers and other public servants on Saturday.

2300 unemployed ex-cops? Over here that would indicate a sudden sharp spike in extremely violent armed robberies. Maybe Turkey is more civilised.

Ya know, he's "built" a pretty sizeable army of unemployed soldiers and police by now. Combine that with sympathizers remaining in the army who don't like Islamism and are wondering when "their turn" is gonna come, and... this is a pretty bold move by Erdogan. Let's see if it pays off.

If he actually sleeps at night, then he's not nearly worried enough.

I guess that's slightly better than getting fired upon, which is what I initially thought the headline said.

Thank You Black Jesus!: shiatty dictator.

Would you want to behead of that?

You know, you could probably form a pretty big army out of all the combat trained, angry, pissed off, unemployed Turks in Turkey right now.  Thankfully the Middle East has a reputation for stability and non-violence.

one good thing that came out of the coup is that turkish air failed to charge me for 100k miles for a business class flight from greece thru istanbul last year.
those miles are being used for round trip tickets to rome in sept.  thanks, erdogan!

Turkey isn't Arab, and they'd be pretty pissed if you called them that.

I wanna know about the consequences for his thugs' wanton attacks on American protesters, yo.

1st Amendment, mtf. You can thug-out w/o consequences. Come on, POTUS, do your goddamn job...

Grrr.

P.S. This incident goes WAY beyond diplomatic immunity, yo squared. Defend American rights, or gtfo.

Seriously, nothing?

*hello*

*shakes head*

2017-07-17 02:09:34 AM
Um, excuse me, but this is a fundamental example of America needing to be defended and yet not? WTF?

Um, excuse me, squared, but either you do as you speak, i.e. all-American defending our freedoms and doing it, in rrreality, or gtfo, mtf.

Yo, POTUS, act here, defending our American fundamental freedom to speak, or declare yourself to be the authoritarian asshat you wannabe...for the electorate has grown impatient with your incompetence with democracy. America Will Suffer No Tyrants!

BigNumber12: Thank You Black Jesus!: awesome people

Well, except for the tens of millions who keep said dictator in power.

There are doubtless many of those, even when acknowledging that the elections were fixed.  The analog would be the many people in this country who voted for Trump.  One could still maintain an overwhelmingly positive view of the society as a whole after spending a few months with people in either  country under either circumstance.

I'm sticking by my statement.

I would not weep bitterly if the Turks did what needs to be done in order to swing back towards secular, democratic governance.

Watching the masses come out in opposition to the coup was disheartening. If they could have foreseen the events of the following year, I wonder how differently things might have gone, even with the coup-bungling that happened.

You can't just get rid of all your civil servants, cold Turkey, like that.

/should do it more gradually.
