Florida's "vintage" pic is from 1994.  Sigh.  Was looking for some old school Florida crackers or Seminoles or something.

Vintage photos from different time periods
Alabama, 2014:

I can't believe how long ago that was. Feels like it's only been a few years.

How do most of these old photos look so.... normal? Most of the old photos I see are all kind of grainy, washed out colors that just make everything look weird.

Glad to see graffiti is still a pastime enjoyed by all.

Funny, I would have thought more people would've been interested in motor boating the Ohio slide

How do us Michiganders spend our down-time? By walking to work, apparently.

Oklahoma is mine, the idea of that small a school in 1972 blows my mind.  Where I grew up the last 1 room schoolhouse had been closed since the early 1900's and had been a museum for about 50 years when that picture from Oklahoma was taken.

An automatic strike if the ball ends up in the tire. I think baseball, from little league to professional, should adopt that rule.

It's a photo celebrating Alabama first getting electricity.

Toxic masculinity?  Quick, get the Ritalin!

The kids in the background casually lounging on that pressurized tank of some kind, and homeboy batting with a broomstick with a cigarette in his mouth make me think the parents couldn't care less about the degree of toxicity these boys are living with.
Despite the blatant disregard for safety, and the swing-and-a-miss, I find that photograph joyful.

Abe Vigoda's Ghost: Those are some magnificent peaks.

That's back in the early 50s, of course, when "bullet bras" all made pointers out of setters (ad is also 1953):img.fark.net

I'm pretty damn sure that's a diesel tank, I can see the crank handle hanging down & the water separator, so it's not pressurized. Common on farms.

Before the 1990s Floridians believed that cameras were tools of the devil that would steal their souls.

Slide #47 made me think of that Sailor Jerry's commercial:

with jaded eyes and features,
you think they really care,
let's go where eagles dare,
let's go where eagles dare!

I remember the smell that plant in Anmoore had. I lived about 20-25 miles away from it, my aunt worked there. About the time you reached Bridgeport you would start smelling the place, you were still about 10 miles away from it.

There's something wistful, and beautiful about these kinds of images:

My mother used to sell World Book encyclopedias as a kind of paying hobby, and she bought us a 1964 edition of Childcraft, full of images like this one. Lots of fun and interesting stuff in those books, pre-social/sexual revolution. I ended up with them, and read lots of the children's rhymes and stories to my own kids.
