Yesterday was supposed to be a double-header on FS1 with Yanks-BoSox at 4 and Rangers-Royals at 7.

Rangers-Royals never got to air and finished before Yanks-BoSox did.

I couldn't believe it when I got home after like 830 or so and they were still going.

Now you'll be lucky if you see half of each lineup in the first game, because heaven forfend we keep anyone out of the ESPN game.

The Cubs won the WS last year and now there's talk of the Astros taking it? We really have entered an alternate dimension.

Cleveland Indians '18. You heard it here first.

Cubs put up a 4-spot in the second for new guy Jose Quintana, after scoring 9 and 10 runs in the first two games of the series.

Quintana with 11 Ks through six innings. Cubs leading 6-0 heading into 7th. So far, so good.

The Yankees have held the Red Sox to one run in their last 25 innings.

Cubs have this Quintana guy for the next 3 1/2 years? Pretty pretty pretty good

Even when they play like shiat, the Doyers still manage to sweep. And Cody Bellinger hit a motherfarking Cycle yesterday.

Jackie Bradley Jr. with straight robbery on Judge.

Play like shiat? Dude, they are dominating right now.

My comment to my wife - the Dodgers are winning the games they should be losing.

Give up a 3-1 lead, down 4-3 in top of 9?  No problem - 3-run homer from Puig.
Down 1 in the 8th? Tie it up, and then win with a walk-off walk in the 10th.

Yeah, that was ridiculous. At least Boston handed the Yankees their first shutout of the season. The Yankees were the last team to score at least a run in every game this season.

I meant Sunday's game. They looked uninspired, left the bases loaded w/ no runs twice, and Jansen looked spooked in the 8th.

Derwood: Cubs have this Quintana guy for the next 3 1/2 years? Pretty pretty pretty good

Yep. Some people are upset that they unloaded what was left of their farm system to get him, but the way the Cubs are set up, they aren't going to be looking to bring a ton of guys up for the next 2-3 seasons. Here's a partial list of the players the Cubs now have who are under team control through 2020:

Starting Pitchers:
Jon Lester (2021 FA with a Team option)
Jose Quintana (2019 FA with two team option years)
Kyle Hendricks (2021 FA)

Postion Players:
C Willson Contreras (2023 FA)
1B Anthony Rizzo 2020 FA with two team option years)
2B Javier Baez (2022 FA)
SS Addison Russell (2022 FA)
3B Kris Bryant (2022 FA)
OF Jason Heyward (2024 FA)
OF Kyle Schwarber (2022 FA)
OF Albert Almora (2023 FA)

Utility guys:
IF/OF Ian Happ (2024 FA)
IF Jeimer Candelario (2023 FA)
IF/OF Tommy LaStella (2021 FA)
C Victor Caratini (2024 FA?)

Bullpen:
Carl Edwards (2023 FA)
Mike Montgomery (2022 FA)
Eddie Butler (2022 FA)
Rob Zastryzny (2023 FA)
Felix Pena (2023 FA)

That's 20 guys with at least some time in the majors who are under team control through 2020, and most of them have 2-3 years beyond that. Not to mention that Zobrist, Grimm and Strop are signed through 2019. If there's a team that can afford to not have a strong minor league system at this moment, it's the Cubs.

I wonder how much the Quintana trade will affect the Arrieta discussions in the offseason. Having a quality third starter lined up for next April certainly takes some pressure off the Cubs, and he's going to be relatively cheap for those three seasons.
