This is such a great metaphor for the whole process: A prominent figure taken down by a tiny clot; a massive piece of legislation brought down by only 1/100th of the body.

An analysis and score of the Senate GOP's new healthcare bill from the Congressional Budget Office is expected on Monday.

I'm sure that as soon as we see how much better this revised plan is than the old plan, the Democrats will be all for it.

It's go time. One last week to pressure Senators who wavered over the previous draft. Call them at their local office. Ask why they were against the previous version. Make them explain why the new draft is an improvement. Tell them it's not (it's even worse). Demand they oppose Trumpcare.

and now he's like "i'm a maverick i scheduled eye surgery for the day before the vote"

On one hand, it's good that it's postponed indefinitely.  Granted a down vote is better.  But no vote will work for me.

On the other hand, you know that if one of the Democrats were taken ill, he wouldn't delay a vote.  He'd rush it if there were a snowballs chance in hell of it passing.

Senator McCain- take good care of yourself.  Don't rush back to work and endanger your health.  Take a month of R&R in Tahiti, just to be sure.  I promise I'll send thoughts and prayers for you every day while you're away.

For the sake of your stint in the Hanoi Hilton, I am sorry to say this, Senator McCain...but:

Payback ain't fun. You should have stuck with "Doberman" as your VP, man. I was still a Repub back then and I woulda voted for you if you'd kicked your handlers out.

That said, Get well. You got family and I ain't a gods damned barbarian.

I guess the Republicans will have to hear that CBO report now. Well played, John McCain.

Same here. And here's what one of mine said:

"I think what this president has said is he's gone out to rallies and said repeal ObamaCare simply because he could get a big, huge applause line. I don't know that he ever understood exactly what the provisions of ObamaCare were, or what we're trying to accomplish in our health system today for more affordable quality care."

They aren't voting for ACA repleal unless they get taken over by the bugs from BrainDead.

Maybe the care he gets should be dictated by the clusterf*ck that the senate republicans are trying to push through their collective cloaca. Might firm up his convictions pretty damn quickly.

Can't the GOP leadership just place his votes for him?  It isn't like that isn't the normal arrangement anyway.

It's going to pass. The Republicans are just waiting for CNN to declare it 100% dead... like they did with the house vote.

Why will it pass? They know their voters are too farking forgetful to hold them accountable whether they pass it or not... But their rich overlords damn sure aren't. These farkers will serve their masters.

Man... I feel like a bad hombre but I hope it passes.

Only way, imo, a significant chunk of GOP base will ever consider not voting party line is when it hits them directly.

Besides, I think it'd lead to such a swift asskicking in 2018, the grown ups could fix it then.

There are a lot of Americans who truly depend on health insurance to fund life-saving care. Statistically speaking, passing this bill will kill several thousand of them. I want to win back Congress in 2018; I'm not willing to sacrifice thousands of our most vulnerable citizens to do it.

Didn't this happen with the house bill where someone just got finished with taxpayer funded healthcare only to vote to screw the poor people out of healthcare himself?

I suspect this will happen again, because the universe is cruel.

This reporting is crap. There aren't any accepted procedures to "remove a blood clot from an eye" and furthermore a "5cm blood clot" is massive - almost 2 inches. Whereas an average human eye is about 2.5cm in diameter (though not perfectly spherical). McCain had has skull opened up and had a sizable hematoma removed from his brain. Certainly nothing routine or something to just be brushed off.

It was probably meant to be 5mm, but not everyone in the US is good with metric.  Got to have shiat in base 12, then cock that up with miles and yards.

They said it was minimally invasive, and he's resting at home (not, say, at Walter Reed).
This is basically his doctor's note that John Can't Come Out and Vote.

While not my first choice, I think that these people need to truly suffer en masse in order for Republicans to lose and for single payer to ever become viable.

Also, it would be super convenient if he died and delayed the passage of this murderous monstrosity, since a special election would be needed to replace him.

I don't care about the well-being of a man who obviously doesn't care about millions of Americans.

No, they'll just blame the Democrats. Or the media. Or the transgendered person who used the same bathroom as they did sometime within the same month. I guess given how ignorant they are, they may be slightly less healthy as a whole, and more at risk of dying from lack of care, but the GOP is working hard on voter suppression to keep that field level.

I want to push the smart button 100 times. If a Democratic senator had had urgent surgery on the weekend, McConnell would have pressed for a vote, arguing house rules, blah, blah.  It would have been his dream to see just one D sen be unable to vote.  And b/c of that, thousands of Americans would have died, but nobody would say boo, because that's how it's supposed to work.

OTOH, I think McCain is farking with us.
