I think if the roles were reversed in qualifying, and Grosjean held up Hamilton by the exact same amount, we would have seen a different opinion from race control.

Quite possibly, but quite reasonably. Roman was never going to outqualify Lewis in a straight fight, so blocking could give him a real advantage. For Lewis Roman isn't a threat so he wouldn't have any advantage in blocking him. Intent plays a big part in punishment. Vettel didn't get a penalty for accidentally running into the back of Lewis. He got a penalty because he deliberately drove into the side of him.

I don't think GRO was ever going to get pole, but he could have started higher possibly if not blocked. Why should a lesser team be denied?

As far as Vettel, 100% agree. Very stupid reaction on his part, and his denials were inexcusable.

I came here to say "Why no Hamilton penalty for blocking!?"

Ok, I see your post, and this is why I don't want racing drivers on the judgment panel.  Just go by the rules, FFS, nasfarkers have been complaining about rules interpretations for years.

Truthfully, I'm indifferent about who wins this race, which is good because it's probably going to be Lewis.

Silverstone is one of my favorite tracks, and since it might be off the schedule in a few years I'm going to enjoy this race for what it is. There might be as few as two more F1 races there if Liberty won't renegotiate the price, something they have an incentive to avoid doing.

Fark Bernie. For every good thing he did for F1 there's things like this. What's F1 without the British Grand Prix? 80% of the teams are based in England, for God's sake.

I hope we get a little rain. I'd like to see how these new full wets perform.
I want to see Kimi get his act in gear tomorrow and beat Lewis to the turn 1. Actually give him a race!

I'm not sure we'll get a long consistent downpour. It is super humid here in the south of England today though, so sudden sharp showers are definitely on the cards. (Seriously. 10 minute walk to the shops and back this morning and I'm drenched with sweat...)

It'll be a damn shame if we lose this track from the calendar, even though I'm not a huge fan of the additional infield section in recent years. There's no other circuit in the uk that is up to spec to host an F1 race right now, and given the uk government offers no assistance for this particular sport none of them can afford the upgrades either.

A street race in London is probably the most likely outcome if Silverstone can't agree a new deal, which could be entertaining but it's not the same is it?

While I was channel-surfing waiting for pre-race coverage, Sportscenter Featured re-ran a piece they did in May, about the kid that won the 2011 Gran Turismo 5 Racing Academy competition:  Jann Mardenborough.

The first-ever GT Academy winner, Lucas Ordoñez, drove for Nissan GT for a couple of years, and got a couple of LMP2 class Top 3 finishes at Le Mans.  But Mardenborough has built himself a career; he's put in a couple of GP3 seasons, and is currently driving in the Super Formula circuit in Japan.

Erm... what's the difference between Mardenborough and Ordonez?  Both of them are making their living driving racing cars now; how has one 'built himself a career' and the other not?

Latest probable rumor from the F1 paddock as well, if it hasn't been mentioned in the pre-race: Sauber will NOT be using Honda next year.  And neither will McLaren.

Cool. I just watched an Amazon documentary about the 2015 Le Mans and he was one of the featured drivers.

Palmer's brake by wire not working... that's not fun. Might be something a reboot fixes though.

Maybe not the right phrasing, how about this?  Ordoñez's career pretty much peaked a couple of years ago with his Formula 3 stint.  Mardenborough is still climbing the ladder.

Well, barring breakage, that's the race win settled.  But the battle for the podium and points will be fun.

2017-07-16 08:08:25 AM
Dirt, debris or oil on Vettel's brake there I suspect. It's already stopped smoking now.

Big off for Sainz...

Only if you only consider open wheel.  Ordonez is having a very successful GT and Prototype career.

Basically they're both doing very well.

That move by Max though to get 3rd back again.  Wow.

Also not entirely sure how comfortable I am with a car being literally on fire on the starting grid apparently being not a major issue.  If it was just a bit of debris caught in the brakes then that's fine, but if it was the brake system itself that was on fire...uh... that can't be actually safe, can it?

The Porsche's in their high-downforce package have managed to catch up and pass the Toyota.  Jackie Chan DC leads LMP2, Porsche is leading GTE Pro, and the Aston Martin in GTE-Am.  4 1/2 hours to go.
