Oh, that's our SHORT STOP.

The red flag was there the day he signed with the redox. The reason Pablo chose Boston over SF: Boston didn't require a weight clause in his contract. SF did. The $$ was pretty much equal.

Pablo got so big around the middle, he snapped his uniform's belt after a particularly hard batting swing.

He should worry much more about his persistent weight gain much more than resurrecting his baseball career. Kirby Puckett stroked out just shy of his 46th birthday. At only 5'8", Kirby ballooned to over 300 lbs.

Here she comes, squeeze
Play, it's gonna be close, here's the throw, here's the play at the plate
Holy cow, I think she's gonna make it!

First thing I thought of.

Allie Watt went 1 for 1 in the last game of the 1920 season for Washington. Not only did he play second base, he got a double in his only career plate appearance, so Watt was indeed on second.

Anyhow, back to baseball.

He sucked. He always sucked. When they signed him I said to anyone who'd listen it was a HORRIBLE signing. I said it would blow up before the ink was dry.  I mean, look at his stats with the Giants! In his last 4 years there, his OPS went down each year. His AVG went down each year. OBP down each year. Strikeouts went up each year. Power was virtually non-existent. What was the damn attraction to this load of pancake batter poured liberally into a uniform and plopped at the corner position?

For fark sake, look at Baseball reference "most similar batters" and you have Shea Hillenbrand! Remember that 3rd baseman from Red Sox lore? He got run out of town, too! At least he was cheap! farking Panda. fark him with a broken belt.

he was definitely one of those 'wtf are you thinking' signings.  even half that price would've been too big of a gamble

The Red Sox didn't lose all their money in a pyramid scheme, there's no reason for them to ask him.

I hope anyone mad about this is equally mad that baseball's salary structure horribly underpays young players. Because there are way more dudes getting screwed like that than owners eating dead money on guys who can't play no mo.

B/c he did a lot better than his usual average during the playoffs. In soccer, it's the equivalent to paying a fortune to a guy who has a dream World Cup, and then wonder why he can't keep it going during 3 games a week in England.

Something like you get $1 mil per point of WAR you generated as a bonus if you are on the rookie scale

So Red Sox ownership could sell panda hats and market whatever panda garb they could come up with. They place a big emphasis on player marketability. That's how this specific ownership group thinks.

I actually hope Thornburg does well for the Red Sox. I almost feel guilty about that trade so far
