Hallo all! It's date night, so I may be late and I'll definitely miss Lawrence (insert joke about checking the oil level).

I do hope that I can catch it. There is so much to discuss today!

And of course, I hope that everyone is having a good day and that.

Date night, huh?  Performing an oil check?  I remember that term from my wrestling days.  It involved an UTIA.

Tonight's dinner is roast beef on baguette, dipping broth and chips.  One of my co-workers gave me Hell about not eating at the office and making my lunch break into one long smoke break.  My answer: "How do you think I maintain this girlish figure of mine?"

Okay all, I'm all gussied up (well, relatively speaking - it's not my usual pj pants) and headed out. Can't wait to catch up once I get home.

I think we're hitting up the Mongolian place tonight. We're steadily working through the restaurants in town.

That's not obamacare failing, that's your state failing to regulate the insurance company's grab for profit.
CT regulates increases, if the companies try for too much, CT says no increase for you! Which is incredible, considering where insurance companies started out.

eh, heavy air asphyxiation is actually a pretty reliable and painless way to go, all things considered. you feel lightheaded, you pass out, and it's done. much as i abhor the death penalty, if we're gonna insist on keeping it around this would be the ideal way to do it.

I've heard of policies paying out even if it was suicide, but you have to wait 2 years for the money

saw the thread about this at work, didn't really get a chance to dig in on the details, but the concensus was that the amendment really wasn't that well thought through. the main objection raised being that a WH official's clearance being suddenly revoked without explanation would be a pretty clear tip-off to an investigation into them they might not have otherwise been aware of, and thereby potentially compromising to the investigation.

off topic:

was thinking about trying to submit this one, but couldn't think of a clever headline. TL;DR: Ben Sasse was a complete dick to someone in his book without any attempt to contact them and verify the statements he was slagging them off about, except since she works for Cracked, Cracked gets to tell him off. fun little watch:

Which isn't a real good reason.  The clearance doesn't magically evaporate if somebody is under investigation - it would take somebody who knows the person is under investigation to cancel the clearance.  And presumably that somebody would be part of the investigating body, so would know not to tip off the subject.

Yeah.  The defence of "he's young, he's a good kid, etc" kinda stops working once you hit past say 21-22.  It certainly doesn't work when you are of the age to be a head of state!

I really want McCain to be the killing vote, especially if he would announce retirement right after.  Stab Drumpf and the rest of them who went against him in '00 in the back (and several times in the face, just to be sure)

But I doubt it will happen.

Inert gas suffocation - actually a relatively common form of DYI euthanasia.  The gas (generally helium or nitrogen) prevents the panic and sense of suffocation.  The bag is usually a plastic drawstring style trash bag.

Depends on the policy.  Most have an exclusion for suicide anywhere from 2-5 years from the start of the policy.  If the policy had been in effect for more than five years, it would likely pay out.
